Rated 2 stars (A solid, recommendable production, though slightly more conventional and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
Alongside his wine merchant venture in South Africa, Julien Schaal founded his Alsatian business in 2011—a highly unique endeavor, as it is exclusively a wine merchant operation based on purchasing grapes from Grand Cru vineyards. Currently, nine grand cru wines are on the list, representing nearly every type of soil in the region, and the selection consists solely of Riesling, with the exception of a Gewürztraminer from Osterberg and a blend from Altenberg de Bergheim. In a blind tasting, his 2017 vintages blew us away. Hats off!

Wine rated (2026 guide) 90/100
About the wine:
The 2024 Riesling is made from grapes harvested in Riquewihr, Hunawihr, and Ribeauvillé, on soils that are both limestone and gneiss. A smooth, velvety texture is accented by a hint of lemon and a note of lemon balm. The palate is lemony, lively, supple, concentrated, and elegant, with superb roundness resulting from partial malolactic fermentation. A lingering freshness further highlights the lemon notes. (Very dry)

A perfect Riesling with vibrant fruit and remarkable mineral freshness, well-rounded and enhanced by a subtle salinity on the finish. It pairs wonderfully with tagliatelle with smoked salmon and crème fraîche. It’s bursting with energy and delivers outstanding value at an unbeatable price. Rating = 4.3.
