Domaine Schieferkopf - Riesling Lieu-dit Buehl 2010

15,5/20
Bettane & Desseauve
“The 2010 Riesling Buehl offers juicy aromas of ripe peach and apricot, tinged with the invigorating bitterness of their pits and smoky notes of black tea. Full-bodied and fresh—especially for this vintage—it finishes with a pronounced mineral character that some attribute to the blue slate soils. Aromas of musk and peony on the palate lend a mystical touch to this wine, which should be cellared until at least 2020.” (Wine Advocate 2014 - Robert Parker)

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 15.5/20 (Very good wine)
Winery rated 1 star (A high-quality, recommended wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the wine:
A clean, well-balanced palate with good body; the finish is currently a bit tight but shows great promise, with notes of pineapple.
About the estate:
Biodynamic farming always takes a few years to show results, both in terms of root development and soil health, and Michel Chapoutier knows this well, having purchased this estate in 2009 with a few friends who are connoisseurs of fine wines. Located in northern Alsace, on a vein of blue schist, the estate is gradually finding its footing. The single-vineyard Rieslings (Burg, Buehl, and Fels) are beginning to reveal the subtle nuances of their soil.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Wine rated (2014 guide) 16/20 (Very good)
About the wine:
The mineral and floral notes of the initial aroma give way to hints of white fruit and exotic fruit, with nuances of lemon and candied pineapple and a touch of saltiness. This rich, well-structured wine, built around a delicate acidity and ripe fruit, is enhanced on the finish by a hint of iodine. This full-bodied Alsace wine is ideal for pairing with grilled river fish.
