"The critics are unanimous: Penfolds Yattarna is a Chardonnay of marvelous richness and complexity—a true connoisseur's wine!"
"This full-bodied wine boasts a seductive richness and confidently showcases the best qualities of Chardonnay. Sourced from the coolest regions of Tumbarumba in New South Wales, Tasmania, and the Adelaide Hills, this premium cuvée is once again the result of careful vineyard selection. Its bright, expressive aromas of nectarine blossom and jasmine are complemented by a sexy hint of lemon curd and a touch of grapefruit. The balance among all the components is magnificent, as complex textures and flavors unfold, ranging from bright white peach to lime cream, culminating in a tingle of lemon sorbet on the finish. 2025–2044" (Decanter 2023) - Delivery in a wooden case is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and selected shipping method)

About the wine:
The 2022 Yattarna Chardonnay is made from grapes sourced from Tumbarumba (61%), Tasmania (notably the Coal River Valley, 26%), and the remainder from the Adelaide Hills. This wine ages slowly and gracefully, and I love it for that. Phenolic compounds frame a powerful core of fruit that is both delicate and expansive. It fills the mouth and lingers long after the wine has faded. At this stage, its development seems nascent: subtle hints of texture and a line of lively acidity suggest the wine still has time before it fully realizes its potential. In my opinion, the Yattarna is the best investment in this collection, and the integration of malolactic fermentation in the wine is seamless and flawless. The Yattarna is entirely inoculated with yeast strains developed by the estate, cultivated over time in collaboration with the AWRI. It has an alcohol content of 12.5%, a pH of 3.11, and a total acidity of 6.8 grams per liter. It was aged for eight months in French oak barrels (44% new). 2024–2042

About the wine:
This wine may be fresher than other Chardonnays. The nose is marked by notes of spruce, nettle, lemon curd, and Camembert, before giving way to hints of stone fruit and a glimpse of praline, cashews, pistachios, and nougat at the wine’s core. A medium-bodied wine that exerts a reductive tension on a compact and immensely concentrated mid-palate, paradoxically giving an impression of calm and lightness. An excellent Yattarna. Drink now, but best enjoyed starting in 2025.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 96/100
About the wine:
The nose is currently somewhat reserved, with notes of tropical fruit, hints of citrus, an appetizing herbal character, and mineral, smoky, and reductive undertones. The palate is pleasantly light-bodied with notes of flint, very juicy, and very persistent. It will continue to age.
