Grant Burge
Grant Burge represents the fifth generation of winemakers in the Barossa. Throughout his career, Grant has been one of the most respected and innovative figures in the Australian wine industry.
The history of the Burge family and their long association with the regional wine industry can be traced back to March 1855, when John Burge immigrated from England to Barossa with his wife and two sons. John worked as a cellar master at Hillside Vineyards, and his love for viticulture was passed on to his son Meshach, who continued the tradition by producing his first vintage in 1865, while becoming a prominent leader in the region. Meshach married Emma in 1883 and had eight children. The eldest, Percival, founded Wilsford Winery near Lyndoch in 1928. Percival had two children, Noel and Colin, and Colin and his wife Nancy had a son in 1951: Grant.
Grant Burge is convinced that if each grape variety is planted in suitable soil and the vines are managed to produce limited yields, they will yield high-quality grapes that result in exceptional wines. By combining the best terroirs, the best climate, and the best winemaking techniques, the best wine is the logical outcome!
