Mount Pleasant
In 1921, Maurice O'Shea, a graduate in viticulture and oenology from the University of Montpellier, convinced his mother to buy a 16.3-hectare estate in the Hunter Valley, which he named Mount Pleasant. A decade later, the McWilliams family, already known for their fortified wine production, invested in the property and then bought it outright in 1941. Maurice O'Shea remained cellar master until his death in 1959.
Since Maurice O'Shea's departure, three cellar masters have succeeded one another to build and maintain Mount Pleasant's reputation
.Mount Pleasant has five distinct vineyards: Lovedale (31.1 hectares), Rosehill (27 hectares), Estate (29.5 hectares), Old Paddock (0.74 hectares), and Old Hill (3.1 hectares). Most of the production is devoted to Syrah (Shiraz) and Semillon, both of which are internationally recognized.
