"An Australian icon!"

The classic John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 is so lovely, but make no mistake, it is alsobuilt to last. Beautifully bright and fragrant, it displays impeccable fruit purity with aromas of graphite, blackcurrant, and leaves supported by fine French oak. It then builds layers of blackcurrant and gravel flavors with fantastic poise and fruit concentration leading to a long and engaging finish. Truly consistent, this beautiful combination of subtlety, concentration, and structure is impressive. Drink now but will improve further over the next 2 decades." (Vinous 2022) - Delivery in wooden crates for all orders of 6 bottles of this wine (excluding Point Relais delivery method).

Wine rated (2020 guide) 99/100

About wine:

A lot of lean muscle translates into powerful flavors: blackcurrant and chocolate, sage, plum, and espresso, all tied together with a tannic hint of graphite. From a drier vintage, the density of the fruit's weight is synonymous with intensity, and the clarity of the flavors lingers and resonates long after the last note. Think of the final piano chord in The Beatles' A Day In The Life. Captivating! 2020-2050

Wine rated (2022 guide) 96+/100 (Extraordinary wine)

About wine:

These wines from John Riddoch are, year after year, more accessible and more supple when they are released. Coonawarra in Australia has a reputation for producing Cabernet Sauvignons with extraordinary longevity, which are not necessarily affordable early on. Well, these modern wines buck that trend. The refined oak program has actually helped to support the fruit and elevate it rather than weigh it down. This is the result of many years of research and work by the Wynns team, particularly winemaker Sarah Pigeon. So let's get to the wine. This 2016 John Riddoch Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon offers five spices, blackberry, raspberry, salted licorice, clove, tobacco leaf, a hint of nag champa tobacco, jasmine tea, and a brilliant length—I wrote the note on length. These wines should be measured by their balance and their ability to age. In this case, also by their beauty as a young wine. Drink it now, but you'll be better served by exercising a little patience and drinking it from 2026 to the late 2040s and beyond.

About wine:

This is a very impressive and majestic Cabernet that offers a rich palette of blackcurrant, blackberry, and a hint of cedar and chalkiness. There is a very rich and powerful core of deep fruit, as well as a thread of rich chocolate flavor and a core of very polished and assertive tannins that lasts a very long time. Try it from 2022 onwards.
