Domaine Clos de Mez
Clos de Mez is a family-owned estate that has been run by women for three generations and is now managed by Marie-Elodie Zighera. The vineyard, spanning nearly 6 hectares, produces wines in the Fleurie and Morgon appellations.
Most of the soil at Clos de Mez consists of granite that has broken down into pink sand known as "gore," and some plots in the Fleurie appellation are situated on steep slopes. The philosophy of Clos de Mez is based on a single conviction: "70% of a wine’s quality depends on the quality of the grape." Since 2006, the focus has been on soil management, as well as yield control through severe pruning and rigorous debudding, and exclusively manual grape harvesting. The plots, averaging 40 years old, are planted with Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc. Marie-Elodie Zighera draws on her knowledge as an oenologist to understand the expertise of the elders and offer an authentic wine with character and aging potential, free of excesses or exuberant aromas!
