Domaine Clos de Mez

Clos de Mez is a family-owned estate that has been run by women for three generations and is now managed by Marie-Elodie Zighera. The vineyard, spanning nearly 6 hectares, produces wines in the Fleurie and Morgon appellations.

Most of the soil at Clos de Mez consists of granite that has broken down into pink sand called “gore,” and some of the Fleurie appellation plots are located on steep slopes. The philosophy of Clos de Mez is based on a single conviction: “70% of a wine’s quality depends on the quality of the grapes.” Since 2006, the estate has prioritized soil management and yield control through severe pruning and rigorous debudding, as well as exclusively hand-harvested grapes. The vineyards, with an average age of 40 years, are planted with Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc. Marie-Elodie Zighera draws on her knowledge as an oenologist to understand the expertise of previous generations and to offer an authentic wine with character and aging potential—free of unnecessary elements or exuberant aromas!
