Domaine Clos de Mez
Clos de Mez is a family estate that has been run by women for three generations and is now managed by Marie-Elodie Zighera. The vineyard covers almost 6 hectares and produces wines in the Fleurie and Morgon appellations.
Most of the soil at Clos de Mez is made up of granite that has broken down into pink sand called "gore," and some of the Fleurie appellation plots are located on steep slopes. The philosophy of Clos de Mez is based on a single conviction: "70% of the quality of wine depends on the quality of the grapes." Since 2006, the focus has been on working the soil, controlling yields through severe pruning and rigorous debudding, and harvesting the grapes exclusively by hand. The plots, which are on average 40 years old, are planted with Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc. Marie-Elodie Zighera draws on her knowledge as an oenologist to understand the expertise of her predecessors and offer an authentic wine with character and aging potential, without superfluous or exuberant aromas!
