"Cosseted and gourmet (Wine Advocate) "

"This is a very well-structured wine for a Beaujolais-Villages. Subtle aromas of sour cherry and wild strawberry pervade the rather smooth, barely full-bodied palate, which has a lovely mineral freshness and a hint of blood orange in the long, crisp finish." (James Suckling 2024)

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the domain :

After graduating in viticulture and oenology, Jean-Marc Burgaud settled in Morgon on the Côte de Py in 1989. Today, he owns 17 hectares in four appellations, Beaujolais-Villages red and white, Régnié and Morgon, the latter representing 11.80 hectares. Jean-Marc Burgaud is a discreet winegrower, but just mention his name in the vineyard and you'll quickly realize that his reputation precedes him.

About the wine:

Beaujolais-Lantignié 2023 is medium-bodied, driven by lively acidity that enlivens its blackberry and raspberry tones. Noble spice and an essence of sweet earth add nuance, while its generous volume envelops the palate. Powdery tannins delicately coat the cheeks, embracing the wine's silhouette. Full-bodied and greedy, this cuvée, like Les Charmes, is best enjoyed in the short term, while waiting for the other wines to soften.

About the domain :

For several years running, I've noticed that Jean-Marc Burgaud is a winemaker at the top of his game, and his success in meeting the challenges of the 2021 vintage is just further proof of that. These are some of the most delicious wines produced in the region today, and they're all the better for Burgaud's move away from new oak to dry wood, and his pursuit of gentler extraction than in the past, with his semi-classic - carbonic maceration lasting 7 to 15 days depending on the cuvée. And there is only one bottling of each wine, which gives a rare homogeneity, even for its 4.3 hectares in Beaujolais-Lantignié (one of the region's finest values, by the way).

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the domain :

Since the creation of his domaine in 1989, Jean-Marc Burgaud has become a firm fixture in our guide. From his apprenticeship in Burgundy, he has learned to work in cuvées parcellaires, to age the grapes over two winters, and to destem the grapes according to the year and the wine. His vinification always brings a velvety look to the Gamay, set by barrel ageing (very little new) adjusted to each climate (the majority being located on different Morgon terroirs). He also produces régnié and beaujolais-villages on the granite soils of Lantignié. The style has opened up over time, without losing sight of the expression of the place.

About the wine:

This is a very well-structured wine for a Beaujolais-Villages. Subtle aromas of sour cherry and wild strawberry pervade the rather smooth, barely full-bodied palate, which has a lovely mineral freshness and a hint of blood orange in the long, crisp finish. Made from four hectares of vines aged between 45 and 70 years. Fermented and aged exclusively in concrete vats. For drinking or cellaring.
