“Nearly 8 ha of decomposed granite soil were used to produce this magnificent cuvée, which possesses all the qualities of a remarkable Brouilly: length, balance, intensity, and tannic structure enhanced by a beautiful and complex aromatic profile… A success all the more commendable given that the 2023 vintage was far from easy. Thomas and Pierre Laforest handled carbonic maceration with inspiration.” (Hachette Guide 2025)

About the wine:
Nearly 8 ha of decomposed granite soil were used to produce this magnificent cuvée, which possesses all the qualities of a remarkable Brouilly: length, balance, intensity, and tannic structure enhanced by a beautiful and complex aromatic profile… A success all the more commendable given that the 2023 vintage was far from easy. Thomas and Pierre Laforest skillfully and creatively employed carbonic maceration.
About the estate:
A winemaker like his father and grandfather, Jean-Marc Laforest took over the reins in 1973 of an estate that now spans 20 ha. His two sons, Thomas and Pierre, took over in 2016. The estate produces Brouilly, Côte-de-Brouilly, and Régnié wines, as well as Beaujolais-Villages.

Despite a warm 2023 vintage, Laforest comes out on top with a Brouilly that’s stunning in its freshness and aromatic intensity, dominated by lively, delicately spiced red berries, framed by soft, silky tannins. It’s a shame that it fades rather quickly on the finish. Enjoy it right away with slices of bread topped with traditional pork rillettes or a Lyon-style brioche sausage. Rating = 3.9.

We revised the rating we gave earlier this winter—we really enjoyed it on Sunday after letting it breathe in a decanter for a good hour. It’s also a shame we can’t be more precise with our ratings by giving half a glass, like 3.5 instead of 4 glasses—but that’s just a minor detail to improve the average rating.

Review and opinion by Mr. MATHIEU W. Published on November 8, 2024
A medium-deep ruby color with purple at the core and still at the rim. Quite a deep color. On the nose, hints of red fruit and earthiness. Modest or still a bit closed? Light carbonic maceration aromas. On the palate, a small explosion of crisp and juicy red berry fruit, with immediate grip and tension, a hint of bay leaf, fine acidity, body, a beautiful tannin structure, and then those red berries and that raspberry-like acidity again. Character, depth, and length. I can see why Guide Hachette gave it 3 stars. A good value for the price. Score: 16/20
