“This magnificent vintage [...] possesses all the qualities of a remarkable Brouilly (Hachette)”

“Nearly 8 hectares of weathered granite soil were used to produce this magnificent cuvée, which possesses all the qualities of a remarkable Brouilly: length, balance, intensity, and tannic structure enhanced by a beautiful and complex aromatic profile… A success all the more commendable given that the 2023 vintage was far from easy. Thomas and Pierre Laforest handled carbonic maceration with inspiration.” (Guide Hachette 2025)

About the wine:

About the estate:

A winemaker like his father and grandfather, Jean-Marc Laforest took over the reins in 1973 of an estate that now spans 20 hectares. His two sons, Thomas and Pierre, took over in 2016. The estate produces Brouilly, Côte-de-Brouilly, and Régnié wines, as well as Beaujolais-Villages.

Despite a warm 2023 vintage, Laforest has produced a stunning Brouilly, bursting with fragrance and mineral freshness, featuring lively and highly expressive red berry aromas (raspberry, cherry), framed by supple, silky tannins. Medium length. Also highly recommended for its value. Enjoy it with slices of bread topped with creamy, old-fashioned pork rillettes, or with a creamy Parmesan risotto garnished with thinly sliced Culatello di Zibello. Rating = 4.

We revised the rating we gave earlier this winter, and we really enjoyed it on Sunday after letting it breathe in a decanter for a good hour. It’s also a shame we can’t be more precise with our ratings—like giving a half-glass rating of 3.5 instead of 4 glasses. Anyway, that’s just a small detail to improve the average rating.

A medium-deep ruby color with purple hues at the core and still visible at the rim. Quite a deep color. On the nose, hints of red fruit and earthiness. Modest or still a bit closed? Light notes of carbonic maceration. On the palate, a small explosion of crisp and juicy red berry fruit, immediate grip and tension, a hint of bay leaf, fine acidity, body, a beautiful tannin structure, and then those red berries and that raspberry acidity again. Character, depth, and length. I can see why Guide Hachette gave it 3 stars. Good value for money. Score: 16/20
