"Absolutely delicious!"

"The 2023 Morgon Corcelette opens with aromas of candied berries, lilac, dried rose petals, forest floor, dark chocolate, and spices. Bold and full-bodied on the attack, the wine reveals a medium- to full-bodied structure with a complex mid-palate. Supple yet well-structured tannins, reminiscent of sandstone, lend a dynamic tension that carries through to a lingering finish tinged with sea salt. This wine shows great promise and will benefit from a few years of bottle aging to gain in fluidity.” (Wine Advocate 2025)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2022 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

The Mélinand family is based in Fleurie, but their 20-hectare estate spans six appellations, including the Fleurie crus (the largest), Chiroubles, and Juliénas, and—since the arrival of their son, Mathieu—a vineyard in Morgon. We were won over by the 2015 vintage; the 2016 vintage, while offering a different style, refined the estate’s signature profile. The 2017 vintage confirms the delicate, slender profile—without any dilution—that we so admire. Our only regret is that some cuvées exhibit a slightly ethereal nose. Overall, this is a highly recommended estate with a refined style.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2023 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Founded in 1970 in Fleurie by Jean-Jacques and Liliane Mélinand using the family’s vineyards, the estate was taken over by their son Mathieu in 2009. Having previously worked as a winemaker in Australia and New Zealand, he now manages 20 hectares of vineyards spread across six appellations, including four crus. A sure bet.

With a noble reduction, the 2023 Morgon Corcelette opens with aromas of candied berries, lilac, dried rose petals, forest floor, dark chocolate, and spices. Bold and full-bodied on the attack, the wine reveals a medium- to full-bodied structure with a complex mid-palate. This wine shows great promise and will benefit from a few years of bottle aging to develop greater fluidity.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 90/100

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

Corcelette is cheerful and elegant, with hints of small red berries.

About the estate:

Mathieu Mélinand took over the family’s 20-hectare estate in 2008, following his experiences in the Southern Hemisphere. Each of the four crus is mature, maintained through the annual replanting of missing vines. All the wines are vinified with native yeasts and aged in large oak casks. They possess rich textures, but are not overly extracted.

Jancis Robinson

Jancis Robinson

Wine rated (2024 guide) 16,5+/20

About the wine:

A medium-intensity, bright, translucent ruby color. The nose and palate are less intensely fruity than the Fleuries we just tasted. Nevertheless, there are plenty of floral aromas; it’s quite aromatic with a medium body. It’s a lovely, flavorful style, and the alcohol feels quite warm. It’s balanced by fresh acidity and plenty of spice.

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2025 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

This fresh and lively red wine offers aromas of licorice, red cherries, nutmeg, and boysenberries. It is medium-bodied, elegant, and refined, with slightly chalky tannins and a mineral freshness. Enjoy now or cellar.
