"Deliciously indulgent!"

The Morgon Corcelette 2023 opens with aromas of candied berries, lilac, dried rose petals, undergrowth, dark chocolate, and spices. Bold and voluminous on the attack, the wine reveals a medium to full body with a complex mid-palate. Supple but well-structured tannins, reminiscent of sandstone, lend a dynamic tension that lingers through a persistent finish tinged with sea salt. This wine shows great promise and will benefit from a few years of bottle aging to gain fluidity." (Wine Advocate 2025)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2022 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

The Mélinand family is based in Fleurie, but their 20-hectare estate covers six appellations, including Fleurie (the largest), Chiroubles, and Juliénas, and, since the arrival of Mathieu, the son, a vineyard in Morgon. We were impressed by the 2015 vintage, and the 2016 vintage refined the style. 2017 confirms the delicate, slender profile, without dilution, which we applaud. Our only regret is that some cuvées have a slightly harsh nose. Overall, this is a highly recommended estate with a refined style.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2023 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Created in 1970 in Fleurie by Jean-Jacques and Liliane Mélinand from family vineyards, the estate was taken over by their son Mathieu in 2009. Having previously worked as a winemaker in Australia and New Zealand, Mathieu now manages 20 hectares of vineyards spread across six appellations, including four crus. A sure bet.

About wine:

With a noble reduction, the Morgon Corcelette 2023 opens with aromas of candied berries, lilac, dried rose petals, undergrowth, dark chocolate, and spices. Bold and voluminous on the attack, the wine reveals a medium to full body with a complex mid-palate. Supple but well-structured tannins, reminiscent of sandstone, lend a dynamic tension that lingers through to a persistent finish tinged with sea salt. Wine rated (2026 guide) 90/100

Rated estate (2023 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About wine:

Corcelette is cheerful and graceful, with its shades of small red berries.

About the estate:

Mathieu Mélinand took over the family's 20 hectares in 2008, after gaining experience in the southern hemisphere. Each of the four crus shows its mature age, maintained by annual replanting of missing vines. All the wines are vinified with indigenous yeasts and aged in large casks. They have a pulpy texture, but are not overly extracted.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 16,5+/20

About wine:

Medium ruby color, bright and translucent. The nose and palate are less intensely fruity than the Fleuries we have just tasted. Nevertheless, there are plenty of floral aromas; it is quite high-toned with medium body. It is a lovely, flavorful style and the alcohol seems quite warm. It is balanced by fresh acidity and lots of spice.

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2025 guide) 92/100

About wine:

This fresh and lively red wine offers aromas of licorice, red cherries, nutmeg, and boysenberries. It is medium-bodied, elegant, and refined, with slightly chalky tannins and mineral freshness. Drink now or cellar.
