Domaine des Marrans
Established in Fleurie since 1970, the Domaine des Marrans now spans 19 hectares. The estate’s philosophy is to respect the origin and character of its wines.

The Marrans family estate has been managed by the Mélinand family since 1970. The estate is located in Fleurie, 50 km north of Lyon, in the heart of the Beaujolais region.
1970 -
The EldoradoThe story begins with Jean-Jacques Mélinand’s (known as “JJ”) acquisition of the Clos du Pavillon vineyards in Fleurie. The estate covered 4 hectares at the time, and the wines were vinified in the property adjacent to the vineyard.
Over the years, JJ found himself cramped for space and dreamed of wide-open spaces (not the American kind) and decided to cultivate new plots, still within the Fleurie appellation.
As he expanded his estate, Jean-Jacques Mélinand found himself with a winery too small to accommodate the entire harvest. A new winemaking facility was then built on the plateau located 500 meters from the vineyard, at a place called “Les Marrans.”
This is how the Domaine des Marrans was born.
Liliane, Jean-Jacques’s wife, joined him at the estate to handle the business side and, at the same time, opened a bed-and-breakfast.
Domaine des Marrans acquired several plots in the Fleurie, Beaujolais, and Beaujolais-Villages appellations. Just as 13 years earlier, the issue of capacity arose again. The estate then undertook an expansion of the winemaking facility.
Who hasn’t dreamed of a cool breeze in the summer? The same goes for Chiroubles! 2.5 hectares of vineyards on the slopes of Chiroubles were then acquired in the locality known as “Aux Côtes” (given the name, we suspected it would be an uphill climb).
2009 marked the arrival of their son Mathieu, who, after studying viticulture and oenology and gaining experience abroad (Australia, New Zealand), took over the family estate.
His arrival brought new energy to the operation; an arrival that didn’t come alone, as it was accompanied by 2 hectares of Morgon “Corcelette”
The 19.5 hectares of vineyards we cultivate are divided as follows:
– 11.5 ha of Fleurie with two cuvées: “Clos du Pavillon” and “Les Marrans”
– 2.5 ha of Chiroubles “Aux Côtes”
– 2 ha of Morgon “Corcelette”
– 3 ha in the Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages appellations
– 0.50 ha of Chardonnay in the Beaujolais Blanc appellation
The white-juiced Gamay Noir is the sole grape variety used for our red wines.
Our Beaujolais Blanc is made from Chardonnay.
