Domaine Paul Janin et Fils
Domaine Paul Janin et Fils was founded by Paul Janin, a very low-key winemaker, who began exporting his wines in the 1970s and entered the French market in 1975. Today, the Domaine Paul Janin et Fils vineyard spans 10 hectares spread across two appellations. In Beaujolais-Villages, the “Domaine des Vignes des Jumeaux” is produced from 2 hectares of vines planted at the edge of the hillsides, on clay-granite soil. In Moulin-à-Vent, the“Clos du Tremblay,”the“Domaine des Vignes du Tremblay,” and the “Séduction” cuvée are produced from a combined total of 8 hectares of vineyard plots located within the appellation’s boundaries. South-facing slopes predominate in this area. The soils are primarily sandstone, with a surface layer alternating between sand and/or red clays known as “bariolées.”
Domaine Paul Janin et Fils strives to cultivate its vineyards as sustainably as possible and was certified HVE 3 in 2018. The soils are deeply plowed on a regular basis. Green harvesting is practiced only when necessary, as the estate prioritizes pruning and debudding to regulate and control yields. Harvested by hand, the grapes are sorted one by one. Two sorting tables operate continuously during the harvest period. Pressing is carried out as gently as possible to retain only the finest and most noble tannins. The wines are aged for 8 to 10 months, depending on the cuvée. While the methods used at Domaine Paul Janin et Fils remain traditional, they nevertheless ensure consistent quality in the wines produced.
