Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Owned by the Amoreau family since 1610, this estate stands out for its terroir, its unique winemaking methods, and above all, its viticulture. Led by fervent advocates of biodynamics, including its director Harold Langlais, the estate's wines are often praised by natural wine enthusiasts, but their infused style can be disconcerting to those accustomed to classic Bordeaux. The wines are deep and show great aging potential, from the classic Émilien cuvée to the Barthélémy cuvée. For this latter single vineyard selection, the estate is applying to the INAO for AOC recognition, given the red clay and limestone geology, its position at the highest point of the appellation, and the bacterial quality of the soils, which have not seen any inputs for ages. In the meantime, the estate's production is labeled Vin de France.

About the estate:

Long ignored, even despised, Le Puy is now the object of everyone's desire and arouses the curiosity of its most prestigious neighbors, who don't hesitate to come in droves, as its director, Harold Langlais, told us. It must be said that the estate has a lot going for it, if only in terms of its history: a family whose winemaking origins date back to the early 17th century, soils that have never been treated with chemicals for over 400 years, and wines and landscapes whose almost mystical aura would make even the most fervent Cartesians doubt.

About the estate:

A little further east, overlooking the Dordogne, Château Le Puy can boast of having seen 15 generations of Amoreau succeed one another since 1610. Champions of the most natural viticulture possible and minimal intervention in the cellar, they produce moving and sincere wines, whether from the famous Château Le Puy or Closerie Saint Roc, purchased in 2012, whose single vineyard cuvée Les Noyers 2020 is superb, combining depth and velvety texture in a serene completeness.
