Château Cos d'Estournel - Bordeaux Blanc 2025 (Primeurs)

The vinification facility, as spectacular in its own right as the château’s pagodas, is equipped with tank elevators that allow for gravity-fed processing—not only during winemaking but also during aging—and was first put into use in 2008. It represents the culmination of the estate’s considerable efforts to elevate this wine to the highest possible level, with the ambition of rivaling the First Growths in quality. The deep gravel soil generally makes it the full-bodied of the Médoc wines, the most voluptuous in texture, while retaining the finesse and complexity characteristic of its proximity to Lafite. Recent vintages have gained even greater aromatic purity and sincerity of expression. A highly aromatic and intense white Bordeaux is produced on the soils of La Goulée, a little further north, and bears that name.

Powerful Sauvignon Blanc aromas, enhanced by fragrant floral notes. Juicy and lively, this wine offers hints of citrus and crisp green apple—delicious and enticing. A blend of lemon sorbet, pear candies, pineapple chunks, and fresh, refreshing apple juice. A beautiful combination of flavors that finishes with a clean, slightly mineral note. Businessman Michel Reybier, who acquired the estate in 2000, invested heavily to equip Cos d’Estournel with everything necessary to produce the finest wine possible. The construction of one of the world’s most advanced wineries, designed by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, is a prime example of this. Cos has always produced expressive wines with a rather exuberant style. In the early 2000s, it even veered into caricature at times, pushing the finesse that the terroir is capable of expressing into the background. The tide has turned, and with its latest vintages, Cos has rediscovered an expression that once again captivates us.

An incredible wine, with striking acidity, great depth, and beautiful concentration. Full-bodied and full of character, it reveals aromas of fresh and candied citrus, followed by honeysuckle and other white flowers. On the palate, it opens with a lively and intense acidity. Notes of citrus, lemon zest, mint, and crushed stone emerge from the Château Cos d’Estournel Blanc 2025, a lively and precise white wine composed of 56% Sauvignon Blanc and 44% Sémillon, aged in 6% new oak barrels. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with lively acidity and exceptional length. It is more reserved and refined than the Pagodes and will benefit from aging for a few years in the bottle. It is a brilliant white wine.

Subtle and complex, the bouquet reveals a multitude of nuances, in a detailed yet understated manner. Notes of white-fleshed fruits such as pears and apples blend with aromas of vine peaches, white flowers, and limes. Compact and briny, the wine stands out for its character and elegance—and thus its harmony. It is lively, precise, mouthwatering, and persistent. Everything a great white wine needs. It has the structure to age well in the cellar, but truth be told—and given how it’s performing now—it will be enjoyed long before then. That’s just fine. A beautiful success. 2027–2037
