"A winery worth discovering and keeping an eye on! ~ Decanter"

“A magnificent nose, with blackberry and blackcurrant jam. Good intensity on the palate, with a rush of black fruit that arrives before spicy licorice joins the salty, mineral character of the limestone terroir, lending texture and complexity. A serious, sculpted, and firm style, yet full of energy and dynamism. The texture is smooth, and it displays lovely precision with a bright, juicy finish. A winery to seek out and keep an eye on.” (Decanter 2022)

Wine rated 93/100

Rated estate (2020 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

A subtle, silky attack, with the palate consistently enveloped by refined fruit. A very elegant wine with a very fresh finish.

About the estate:

The 4.5 hectares of this Canon-Fronsac, firmly planted on a terrace overlooking the Dordogne, were enthusiastically taken over by Jean-Francis Pécresse, director of Radio Classique: the estate—recommended by Stéphane Derenoncourt (a leading consultant on the Right Bank)—has gained in fruitiness and refinement; here, the focus is on balance, tannic finesse, and depth. This wine deserves some time to reach its full potential. It offers good value for the price.

Wine Rating (2023 Guide): 2* Stars (Outstanding Wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

The Favorite selected for the 2019 vintage, which is made from 70% Merlot blended with Cabernet Franc. On the nose, an intense and luscious bouquet of red and black fruits unfolds, blended with menthol and spicy notes. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, generous, and smooth, showcasing its balance with a rich, vibrant fruitiness supported by very elegant tannins. 2024–2030

About the estate:

The Pécresse family, former owners of the Grand Corbin and Trotanoy châteaux, has been at the helm of this estate for four generations. The 4.2-hectare estate, known until 2003 as Vray Canon Bodet-la-Tour, is now run by Francis and his son Jean-Francis.

Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

A powdery tannin in a well-ripened wine that remains quite refined.

About the estate:

Before becoming director of Radio Classique and a columnist for Les Échos, Jean-Francis Pécresse was a winemaker. His ancestors, who came from Corrèze, had acquired a small vineyard on the Saint-Michel-de-Fronsac plateau, and he has always closely monitored its development. With guidance from Hannah Fiegenschuh (Derenoncourt nursery), the estate has been climbing the ranks year after year and began the transition to organic farming three years ago. Once an underdog among the great Fronsac producers, Canon Pécresse now stands alongside them, with an increasingly distinct expression of its terroir of weathered limestone; the wines combine charm, purity, and freshness.
