Canon-Fronsac
Canon-Fronsac is a red wine from the Bordeaux region. The Côte de Canon-Fronsac is the geological extension to the southwest of the Grande Côte de Saint-Émilion, home to the appellation's most prestigious wines. At the confluence of the Dordogne and Isle rivers, the Canon-Fronsac appellation d'origine contrôlée produces very appealing wines with a robust, virile character, full-bodied and fleshy. The Canon-Fronsac appellation was recognized by a decree dated July 1, 1939.
Fronsac and Canon-Fronsac form an old wine-growing area made up of valleys. Located at the confluence of two rivers, the Dordogne and the Isle, water is omnipresent. This presence of water helps to create a microclimate that reduces the risk of night frosts in spring, while mitigating the heat in summer. The Canon-Fronsac vineyards are located on sunny hillsides. The soils are relatively diverse: alluvial at the bottom of the slopes and clay-limestone higher up on the hills. In some areas, asteria limestone outcrops. The substrate consists of "Fronsadais molasses," a mixture of clay and sandstone. Well-drained, the soils allow the different grape varieties to flourish, with good ripening.
Blended from Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec, Canon-Fronsac wines are racy, full-bodied, and complex in character. With their beautiful ruby color, Canon-Fronsac wines have intense, distinguished noses that exude aromas of red fruit and pepper, even spice box. On the palate, they seduce with their body and beautiful consistency. Well-structured, with solid but never aggressive tannins, Canon-Fronsac wines have excellent aging potential. This character can be appreciated in particular in the wines of Château Moulin Pey-Labrie and Château Haut-Ballet.
