Wine rated (2018 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the wine:
A superb, exuberant nose, offering rich ripe fruit, notes of violet, sweet flowers, and mild spices; opulent on the palate, with a beautiful attack, flavorful tannins, fruit, length, and liveliness. Potential and charm. A true value for the price.
About the estate:
Marie-Hélène Léonard and Gilles Marsaudon, a former interior designer, settled in the Bourques region in 2002. For several vintages, these new winemakers sought to develop their style through extraction; now, the path seems clear toward a winemaking approach focused on fruit and refinement. All their efforts and financial resources are devoted to improving the vineyards and technical facilities. The investments are substantial, but the results speak for themselves. The “La Part des Fées” cuvée, as well as “Villa Jeanne”—an entry-level wine that is nonetheless barrel-aged—are at the pinnacle of charm, refinement, and balance. This is an estate to watch closely.

About the estate:
This Côtes-de-Bourg estate takes its name from Sulpicius de Monteberiot, a 14th-century monk who founded the village of Mombrier. It was named by Gilles and Marie-Hélène Marsaudon—a former event decorator and a former wine sales representative who switched careers to become winemakers—who acquired this 7.3-hectare vineyard in 2003.
