A charming Fronsac that is typical of its appellation!

Robert Parker: 90/100, Gault Millau 87/100
This beautiful 15th-century castle is one of the oldest estates in FronsacClassified as a historic monument, it has been in the same family for over a century and has been producing remarkable wines for a very long time. This château cuvée, which is appreciated for its fruity pleasure, is made mainly from Merlot (80%). Aged for 12 months in barrels, it reveals aromas of candied red fruits and spicy notes, with a silky, generous palate that is well balanced with round, mellow tannins. Ideal with a rib of beef...

Rated estate (2014 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Banker Stéphane Droulers created the Haut-Carles cuvée in 1994 to express the very best that the terroirs of Château de Carles, owned by his wife Constance Chastenet de Castaing, could produce. Carefully vinified and luxuriously oaked, this cuvée was initially the archetype of modern Bordeaux, without falling into caricature. Composed of 90% Merlot, over time it reveals a very personal expression of a distinguished terroir that ages harmoniously."
