A charming Fronsac that truly embodies its appellation!

Robert Parker: 90/100, Gault Millau 87/100
This beautiful 15th-century château is one of the oldest estates in Fronsac. Listed as a historic monument, it has been in the same family for over a century and has been producing remarkable wines for a very long time. This château cuvée, appreciated for its fruity character, is made primarily from Merlot (80%). Aged for 12 months in oak barrels, it reveals, beneath its aromas of candied red fruits and spicy notes, a silky, generous palate that is well-balanced with round, integrated tannins. Rated estate (2014 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

"Banker Stéphane Droulers created the Haut-Carles cuvée in 1994 to showcase the very best that the finest terroirs of Château de Carles—a property inherited from his wife, Constance Chastenet de Castaing—had to offer. Carefully vinified and luxuriously oaked, this cuvée initially embodied the archetype of modern Bordeaux without becoming a caricature. Composed of 90% Merlot, over time it reveals a very personal expression of a distinguished terroir that ages harmoniously.”
