Château de Carles
Carles Castle, located in the town of Saillans, was built in the 15th century by the famous “de Carle” family, whose members were prominent figures in Bordeaux from the 15th to the 17th century. The Château de Carles and its vineyard have been owned by the same family for over 100 years. The current generation, represented by Constance and Stéphane Droulers, who have been at the helm since 1983, is deeply committed to the estate through their passion for wine and their property. Their ambition is to devote all necessary resources to ensure that the Château de Carles and its wines can regain and sustain the glory and renown they enjoyed in the 19th century, when the wines of Fronsac, Château de Carles at the forefront, were more highly regarded than those of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. As a result, the completely renovated cellars are among the most beautiful in the Bordeaux region, and the Haut-Carles was created in 1994.
Set on clay-limestone soil, the 20 hectares of the Château de Carles consist of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and the remainder Malbec. Half of the vineyard area is dedicated to the Château de Carles, while the other half is used to produce Haut-Carles.
