Castle of Carles
The Château de Carles, located in the commune of Saillans, was built in the 15th century by the famous "de Carle" family, whose members were important figures in Bordeaux between the 15th and 17th centuries. The Château de Carles and its vineyard have been owned by the same family for over 100 years. The current generation, represented by Constance and Stéphane Droulers, at the helm since 1983, is attached to the estate through their passion for wine and their property. Their ambition is to devote all the necessary resources to ensure that the Château de Carles and its wines regain and maintain the glory and renown they enjoyed in the 19th century, when the wines of Fronsac, Château de Carles at the forefront, were rated higher than those of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. The cellars, which have been completely renovated, are among the most beautiful in the Bordeaux region, and the Haut-Carles was created in 1994.

Resting on clay-limestone soil, the 20 hectares of the Château de Carles are planted with 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and the remainder Malbec. Half of the vineyard area is devoted to Château de Carles, with the other half used to produce Haut-Carles.
