"A guarantee of a promising future, while already delicious. This is a far cry from the appellation's standards—it's unsettling and wonderful!"

"A fresh and complex Fronsac, with subtle aromas of cocoa powder that enhance the notes of ripe red fruit, with a hint of ink, graphite, and spices. Almost full-bodied without being heavy, it has vibrant tannins that prolong the fruit towards a long and lively finish. The tannins are chalky and already melted. A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Delicious now, it will keep perfectly for the next 8 to 10 years." (James Suckling 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

At the helm since 2002, Brigitte Rullier-Loussert succeeded her father, Michel Rullier, who bought the property in 1955. She has taken full measure of this 12-hectare vineyard, facing south on clay-limestone hillsides. The 18th-century château and its grounds overlook the Isle Valley. The energetic but sometimes abrupt style has softened nicely and the wines, without losing any of their vigor, have gained greatly in refinement. Very good value for money.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

One of the oldest vineyards in Fronsadais, established in 1610, and undoubtedly one of the highest quality. Overlooking the Isle Valley, the vineyard is divided between Ch. Dalem (12 ha), the flagship label, and Ch. de la Huste (8 ha). Owned by the same family for three centuries before being sold to Michel Rullier in 1955, it has been run since 2020 by his daughter, Brigitte Rullier-Loussert.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

This estate, located on the finest terroirs of Fronsadais, between the plateaus and hillsides of Saillans, is every bit as good as its neighbors. The wines are of high quality but reasonably priced, with a focus on fruit and refined aging. It was with this goal in mind that a new vat room was built: the stainless steel vats allow for more precise work with the different plots. This precision has paid off, as the estate has been awarded its first star, confirmed by a very fine 2020 vintage tasted en primeur.

Yves Beck

Wine rated (2024 guide) 95/100

About wine:

What expression, diversity, and freshness in Dalem's bouquet, which shines as much with its red berry notes as with its chalky character. Dense and velvety on the attack, the wine combines breadth and vigor. It adopts a serene and accomplished stature, guaranteeing a promising future while already being delicious! A very fine achievement. 2026-2047

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Wine rated (2025 guide) 94/100

About wine:

Dark, intense, purple color. Very aromatic, refined, pure, fruity, and subtle nose. Delicately fleshy on the palate, with classy texture and lots of flavor, the wine evolves nobly. Melting body. Juicy and fragrant finish, with fine texture. This presentation is a far cry from the usual perception of Fronsac. It is both unsettling and formidable.

About wine:

Opulent, mature, round, and generous, this wine opens with notes of incense, flowers, chocolate, and spices. The palate is even more beautiful, with all these flavors of ripe, sweet, and indulgent fruits, as if coated in chocolate. Drink between 2025 and 2038.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 94/100

About wine:

Intense purple color with violet highlights and a black core. Powerful, elegant, and persistent nose with fine, expressive aromas of ripe black fruits, blackberries, black cherries, and juicy plums. Elegant spices with notes of vanilla, dark chocolate, and gingerbread, as well as hints of tobacco and flowers in the background. On the palate, elegant and well-structured, with ripe tannins, fine and expressive fruit, discreet minerality, subtle oak and some floral notes on the finish. A wine of great purity and finesse.
