(Notes from the 2013 vintage)

This elegant bottle has a deep purple color. Its bouquet combines notes of wild berries, prunes, and spices. The rich and frank attack on well-integrated tannins evolves powerfully with flavors of black fruit. A very typical "Graves" wine of great quality.

Wine rating (2017 guide) 15.5/20 (2013 vintage) (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2017 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

In 1872, Franciscan sisters founded the Providence orphanage at Château Crabitey. The vineyard was the community's main source of income. In 1985, they called on Jean-Ralph de Butler, an agricultural engineer, who perfected the estate. Today, his son Arnaud is continuing his father's work and remains the sole owner, as the sisters withdrew from Crabitey in 2008. This vineyard is one of the most carefully tended in the Portets area and certainly the one that produces the most balanced wines. Here we are at the heart of classic Bordeaux taste.

About the estate:

Former orphanage and vineyard established in 1872 by Franciscan nuns on the Portets plateau. In 1985, the order called on Jean-Ralph de Butler, an agricultural engineer, to modernize the estate, and eventually sold it to him in 2008. Arnaud de Butler took over in 1999. The vineyard covers 28 hectares of Garonne gravel.

About the estate:

At the head of 28 hectares of vines, a large part of which are located on one of the most beautiful gravelly hilltops in Portets, Arnaud de Butler has, in the space of fifteen years, made this Graves wine one of the benchmarks of the appellation. In 2008, he embarked on a vast program to restructure the vineyard, favoring Cabernet Sauvignon on the finest hilltops of his property. This was a wise choice, as demonstrated by the importance of this grape variety in the quality of the latest blends (particularly in 2014, which will be available later this year). His wines have become much more full-bodied and assertive over the last 10 years. Gaining in mellowness and fruit expression, the wines have also made enormous progress in terms of elegance, both in white and red. Often full-bodied, the reds are never better than in their first three or four years in the bottle and over ten years in the most concentrated vintages.
