Belle-Vue 2020 is a magnificent Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. Notes of dark plum, gravel, clove, menthol, and licorice create a sense of intensity. This 2020 has punch, but it also offers excellent freshness to balance it all out. 2024–2036

The nose features notes of blackcurrant and cherry, as well as hints of baking spices and gravel. The medium- to full-bodied palate is tightly structured with dense, chalky tannins that will need a little time to soften and integrate fully. The finish is mineral. Best enjoyed starting in 2025.

Belle-Vue lives up to the high standards set during the en primeur tasting. It offers a variety of nuances on both the nose and the palate. The bouquet reveals notes of wild berries and Sichuan pepper, complemented by a hint of tea leaves. Delicious and juicy, the wine has full-bodied tannins that provide a perfect foundation alongside its acidic structure. The elements still need to meld together, but the path is clear, and it’s a safe bet that this wine is far from having said its last word! 2026–2045

About the wine:

The wine has a deep ruby color. The nose is elegant, with subtle spicy and oaky notes, plenty of freshness, and concentrated fruit. It initially reveals a pronounced minty note, followed by aromas of licorice, nutmeg, cloves, crushed coriander seeds, toasted vanilla, and chocolate. There are also rich, juicy fruit notes: wild strawberry, morello cherry, roasted red cherry, red currant jelly, fresh blackcurrant, blueberry, and wild plum, as well as a fragrant floral bouquet (violet, cornflower, lily) and a hint of roasted notes (toasted hazelnut). The palate is rich and enveloping, with a slight sweetness, while remaining fresh and refined. It expresses flavors of wild strawberry, creamy blackcurrant, roasted red cherry, fresh morello cherry, and raspberry coulis, as well as mint chocolate, licorice, clove, toasted vanilla, coriander seeds, violet, blueberry, and lily. There is also a subtle hint of blackcurrant leaf that adds a lovely freshness to the bouquet. The tannins are structured yet silky and savory. It has a lovely crisp acidity and a lingering, indulgent finish. A generous yet refined and elegant wine.
