Bettane & Desseauve
Winery rated 1 star (A high-quality, recommended wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
Now it is the very serious and enthusiastic Mélanie Barton-Sartorius who is applying her expertise as an oenologist, combined with her family heritage, to this estate purchased five years ago by her parents. The result speaks for itself. A wine of character, with the exuberance of Moulis, the pedigree of the terroir, and the balance resulting from expert winemaking and grapes harvested at just the right moment. Undoubtedly an estate to watch, which is already making its mark in the appellation.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine noted (guide 2022) 1*Star (Very successful wine)
Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the wine:
This wine relies less on power and more on balance and elegance. It reveals a lovely fruity and floral bouquet (peony), enhanced by a subtle hint of licorice, and a supple, fresh palate with refined tannins. Best enjoyed between 2023 and 2026.
About the estate:
Owned by a Neo-Louis XIII-style château built in 1853, this estate comprises a beautiful, contiguous 220-hectare property, 58 hectares of which are planted with vines. In August 2011, the estate was purchased by Lilian and Michel Barton-Sartorius, whose family already owned the Château Lalande and Château Langoa in Saint-Julien.

About the estate:
This estate, which had been struggling for some time, has been given a new lease on life since its acquisition by the Barton family (Léoville Barton and Langoa Barton). It is now run by Anthony’s granddaughter, Mélanie Sartorius. Today, the wines produced here reflect the velvety, smooth character that has made the family’s wines so successful. These are very approachable and highly recommended wines.
