Bettane & Desseauve
Winery rated 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, consistent with what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
Now, the very serious and enthusiastic Mélanie Barton-Sartorius is putting her expertise as an oenologist to good use, combined with her family heritage, on this estate purchased by her parents five years ago. The result is convincing. A wine with character, with the exuberance of Moulis, the pedigree of the terroir, and the balance resulting from good winemaking and grapes harvested at just the right moment. Definitely a property to watch, which already counts among the appellation's finest.

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About wine:
More than power, this wine is characterized by balance and elegance. It reveals a lovely fruity and floral bouquet (peony), enhanced by a soft note of licorice, and a supple and fresh palate with refined tannins. Best enjoyed between 2023 and 2026.
About the estate:
Owned by a neo-Louis XIII château dating from 1853, this estate comprises a beautiful 220-hectare plot, 58 hectares of which are planted with vines. In August 2011, the estate was purchased by Lilian and Michel Barton-Sartorius, whose family already owned the Lalande and Langoa châteaux in Saint-Julien.

About wine:
Selected from among the 210 wines featured in the special edition "FOIRE AUX VINS 2021": The second wine of Château Mauvesin Barton, this cuvée has been carefully crafted and offers silky tannins with a slight woody finish. Excellent value for money!
About the estate:
This property, which had been struggling for a long time, has been given a new lease of life since its purchase by the Barton family (Léoville Barton and Langoa Barton). It is run by Anthony's granddaughter, Mélanie Sartorius. Now, the wines produced by the family, which have been hugely successful, are once again velvety and smooth. These wines are very accessible and highly recommended.
