Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2017 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the estate:

Located in the far south of the Médoc, Château Sénéjac is owned by the Bignon-Cordier family, who also own Château Talbot; Nancy manages both estates. Château Sénéjac now practices sustainable viticulture.

Decanter

Decanter

Wine rated (2022 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

An enticing nose rich with ripe fruit. Lovely freshness and appetizing notes of cherry juice. The acidity is pronounced yet harmonious and very well-balanced. It simply brims with energy and vibrancy. No complexity, but what it delivers is excellent-quality fruit that has been well-crafted. Best enjoyed sooner to appreciate a lovely, balanced, and bright wine. Bordeaux at its most accessible.

About the wine:

Château Sénéjac 2019 is incredibly crisp. It’s a wine that’s immediately approachable and proudly embraces its “rough-and-tumble” character.

About the wine:

Aromas and flavors of blackcurrant, berries, and tobacco, with hints of thyme and coffee beans. Full-bodied, smooth, and refined. Needs time to mellow.

Yves Beck

Yves Beck

Wine rated (2020 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

A violet color with purple highlights. The bouquet is intense and marked by mineral notes such as flint and chalk. Fruit is abundant, with hints of redcurrants and raspberries. Delicious and fruity on the palate, with beautiful aromatic expression right from the start. Sénéjac is juicy, lively, and perfectly balanced thanks to a fine harmony between its robust structure and the finesse of its tannins. A fruity and lingering finish. A wine with a bright future that deserves to be cellared.

Wine Green

Vert de Vin

Wine rated (2020 guide) 90-91/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About the wine:

The nose is very tightly structured and offers good definition, a touch of power, a fine texture, and subtle intensity. It reveals notes of wild blackberry, wild strawberry, and, more subtly, gray pepper, combined with delicate hints of blond tobacco, almond, and raspberry, as well as touches of wild blackcurrant, pepper, and spices. The palate is juicy, mineral, and fresh, offering roundness, a touch of richness, and a subtle tension. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, juicy raspberry, and a hint of blackcurrant, combined with hints of violet, lily, and a refined minerality that reflects the terroir, as well as hints of ginger, nutmeg, and sweet spices. The tannins are well-integrated and very finely firm. Good length and persistence.

About the wine:

Roasted coffee, flowers, and currants are prominent on the nose and palate of this sweet, round, medium-bodied wine. The finish is lively and classic, with slightly softened tannins that come through in the juicy, blackcurrant- and cranberry-driven finish.
