Note: Robert Parker 88-90/100, Jean-Marc Quarin 15.5-16/20, Bettane & Desseauve 14.5/20
"The wine is undoubtedly promising" (Bettane & Desseauve Guide). Acquired by Jean-Luc Thunevin in 2004, Château Bellevue de Tayac in 2005 is a very fine Margaux, concentrated,
which is both dense and beautifully fresh. With intense notes of toast and very ripe blackcurrant, this wine is sure to delight fans of the appellation!

Rated estate (2012 guide) 3 stars (Very good production)

About the estate:

Jean-Luc Thunevin, from Bordeaux, joined forces with Jean-Roget Calvet and purchased 20 hectares of vineyards located mainly on the black schist terroirs of Maury; 2001 was their first vintage. The estate now covers a good 60 hectares. Continuing with the methods already used in Bordeaux, while adapting to the grape varieties and climate of Roussillon, they chose to harvest at peak ripeness."

Rated estate (2013 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the estate:

(Valandreaux) "Few châteaux can boast of being as controversial. The dazzling success of Valandraud, founded by Jean-Luc Thunevin in the early 1990s, is as irritating as it is fascinating. How did the wines from this unremarkable estate, built from scratch on a single hectare of vines in Saint-Emilion, manage to establish themselves in less than two decades to the point where they are now among the most expensive and sought-after in Bordeaux? The personality of its owner, his talents as a taster and winemaker, and his keen business sense provide much of the answer. However, the contents of the bottle should not be overlooked: Valandraud, an exotic and sensual wine at birth, also ages very well. Although it was the leader of the garage wine movement, Valandraud is no longer part of it today. With its 10 hectares located in the commune of Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse, it exceeds many of the region's estates in terms of surface area. However, the methods have not changed, the vineyard remains one of the best maintained in all of Bordeaux, and the wine continues to benefit from Jean-Luc Thunevin's expertise.
