This wine is one of the least well-known in the ranking but boasts excellent vineyards at the heart of its appellation, and its top-tier 2010 vintage demonstrates its potential. Subsequent vintages are more inconsistent; they initially seem a bit thin but develop a lovely balance two years after bottling, with an elegant floral character typical of Margaux.

About the estate:
Overlooking the Route des Châteaux, in the heart of the village of Cantenac, through a majestic pink marble gate, an elegant 18th-century Carthusian monastery overlooks this historic estate (17th century), classified in 1855. The estate was acquired in 1980 by Lucien Lurton, who passed it on to his son Denis in 1992 when he divided his vast wine-growing estate among his children.

About the estate:
A third-growth Margaux, the château was literally brought back to life by Lucien Lurton in the early 1980s. Since then, it has often disappointed with a wine that was light-bodied, lacking in vigor and with a bouquet that lacked distinction. But since 2000, it has been steadily improving, showcasing aromatic finesse and a delicate texture—hallmarks of a well-rounded Margaux—with the high proportion of Merlot helping to “smooth out the rough edges” of a wine that was once somewhat harsh.

About the wine:
A superb, very spicy, modern, and full-bodied nose, fragrant with black plum, berries, and chocolate—fresh and well-balanced. On the palate, it offers a sense of firmness yet also softness, with plenty of ripe berries, wrapped in well-integrated, spicy oak. A blend of 55% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot. Best enjoyed starting in 2023.
