Durfort-Vivens Castle
Château Durfort-Vivens owes its name to the Durfort de Duras family, a powerful family from the southwest who settled in Margaux in the 14th century. The quality of Château Durfort-Vivens’ wine was already appreciated by the end of the 18th century. The 1855 classification confirmed the opinion of connoisseurs by awarding it the rank of Second Cru Classé. In 1937, the estate was acquired by the Château Margaux company, of which the Lurton family was then the principal shareholder.

Located in the communes of Margaux, Cantenac, and Soussans, the Château Durfort-Vivens vineyard is rooted in deep, particularly poor gravelly hillsides. This great terroir offers early and optimal ripening for Cabernet Sauvignon, allowing it to fully express finesse and silky tannins—a hallmark of the freshness and elegance characteristic of the great Margaux wines.

At Château Durfort-Vivens, the constant quest for a natural balance between the vines and their terroir is reflected in traditional viticultural practices. Vine management and winemaking are meticulously tailored to respect the terroir’s qualities. Sustainable viticulture, plot-by-plot selection, and winemaking and aging processes adapted to the quality of the harvest allow us to produce, through very precise and rigorous adjustments, a magnificent Château Durfort-Vivens wine that is deep in character with a fine, tightly woven tannic structure.
