Château Durfort-Vivens
Château Durfort-Vivens owes its name to the Durfort de Duras, a powerful south-western family who settled in Margaux in the 14th century. The quality of Château Durfort-Vivens Durfort's wine was appreciated as early as the end of the 18th century. The 1855 classification confirmed the opinion of connoisseurs, awarding it the rank of Second Cru Classé. In 1937, the estate was taken over by the Château Margaux company, of which the Lurton family was the main shareholder.
Situated in the communes of Margaux, Cantenac and Soussans, the vineyards of Château Durfort-Vivens are planted on deep, particularly poor gravelly hilltops. This great terroir offers optimal early ripening for Cabernet Sauvignon, enabling it to fully express the finesse and silkiness of its tannins, guaranteeing the freshness and elegance characteristic of great Margaux wines.
At Château Durfort-Vivens, the constant search for a natural balance between the vine and its terroir is reflected in traditional viticultural practices. Vine management and winemaking respect the qualities of the terroir as closely as possible. Sustainable viticulture, parcel selection, vinification and ageing adapted to the quality of the harvest enable us to produce, in small, precise and rigorous steps, a magnificent, deep Château Durfort-Vivens wine with a fine, tight tannic structure.
