“After a very hot and dry summer, the rains in late September were particularly beneficial. The team at Marquis de Terme took full advantage of these weather conditions to produce a truly great wine of admirable balance. On the nose, a true complexity unfolds, featuring red fruits, blackcurrant, pepper, and even eucalyptus. On the palate, one discovers a full-bodied, dense, round Margaux with great freshness, carried by tannins of absolute finesse and perfectly balanced oak. Suitable for long-term aging, of course. Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2020 guide): 4 stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the estate:
Under the capable leadership of Ludovic David, with the full support of the Sénéclauze family—owners of the 40-hectare vineyard since 1935—this wine has gradually refined its tannic structure and the integration of its oak aging. Ludovic David has brought about a true revolution in the winemaking and aging of this wine, which benefits from a remarkable terroir, equipping it with the most modern tools. This has allowed it to rediscover its Margaux character and, since 2010, to rival the best wines in the region.
Decanter
Wine rated (2022 guide) 94/100
About the wine:
A magnificent nose, delicately fruity with very pronounced floral aromas. Excellent acidity and concentration on the palate, precise with elegance and restraint. The tannins are silky and well-integrated, rounding out the flavors of blackcurrant, slate, coffee beans, and dark chocolate. This wine also possesses a very delicate bouquet that is highly appealing. This wine is full of energy and vitality from start to finish. Brilliant. 2024–2036

About the wine:
Following a very hot and dry summer, the rains in late September proved particularly beneficial. The team at Marquis de Terme took full advantage of these weather conditions to craft a truly exceptional wine of admirable balance. On the nose, a true complexity unfolds, featuring red fruits, blackcurrant, pepper, and even eucalyptus. On the palate, one discovers a full-bodied, dense, and round Margaux that is also remarkably fresh, supported by tannins of absolute finesse and perfectly balanced oak. Suitable for long-term aging, of course. 2028–2036
About the estate:
Straddling the towns of Margaux and Cantenac, this estate—founded in 1762—has been owned by the Sénéclauze family since 1935. At the helm of the 40-hectare vineyard since 2009 is Ludovic David, an agricultural engineer who cut his teeth in the Libourne region under Bernard Magrez. In 2019, a restaurant opened to complement the existing tourist offerings.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 94/100
Rated Estate (2023 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)
About the wine:
The 2019 is a robust and dense wine, true to its style, yet with a lovely texture and freshness. The palate is characterized by ripe fruit and abundant tannins. It will need a few years to come together.
About the estate:
Owned by the Sénéclauze family, this understated wine has been gaining in depth and precision over the past few vintages. This is due in part to Ludovic David, the estate’s director, who has taken charge of the vineyard and modernized the winemaking facilities. The desire to produce fuller-bodied wines, and above all, wines with more velvety tannins, is clearly evident; all that is missing is a touch of additional refinement, which seems to be emerging in the very latest vintages.

Vinous
Wine rated (2023 guide) 94/100
About the wine:
The 2019 Marquis de Terme was the best vintage I’ve tasted in several years—this tasting suggests it has improved even further over the past 12 months. The nose is clean and precise, with fragrant aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and crushed stone; the oak is perfectly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied, with juicy black fruit flavors, finely sculpted tannins that are very fresh and vibrant, and real precision and tension on the finish. It’s a wine of true class. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. 2025–2045

Rated estate (2021 guide) Recommended
About the wine:
This is a robust Margaux with aromas of blackberry and blackcurrant, along with hints of fresh tobacco and damp earth. It is full-bodied and layered, with lovely energy and good structure. It finishes with a firm, lingering aftertaste, just as it should. Best enjoyed after 2025.
The Wine Cellar Insider - Jeff Leve
Wine rated (2022 guide) 94/100
About the wine:
Full-bodied, round, rich, ripe, opulent, and refined, the nose opens with aromas of flowers, dark chocolate, and blackcurrant. Supple, silky, and lusciously textured, the wine concludes with an energetic yet polished finish, providing the perfect backdrop for its aromas of black plum, red currant, licorice, cocoa, espresso, and spices. Best enjoyed between 2026 and 2047.
