“Confirms the excellent impression we had during the en primeur tastings. A harmonious nose, offering ripe fruit, sweet floral notes, and elegant oak; the palate lives up to expectations, with depth, flavorful tannins, and great length. Substance, potential, balance—it has it all. Very Médoc-like.” (The Bettane & Desseauve Wine Guide)

Wine rated 15.5/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the wine:

It confirms the excellent impression we had during the en primeur tastings. The nose is harmonious, offering mellow fruit, sweet floral notes, and elegant oak; the palate lives up to expectations, with depth, flavorful tannins, and a long finish. Body, potential, balance—it has it all. Very Médoc-like.

About the estate:

A consistent, well-balanced Médoc that offers excellent value for the price, crafted under the watchful eye of its unassuming winemaker, Jean-Marc Landureau, since 1989. It features a classic Médoc style, with a velvety structure that is more about finesse than sheer power. With its 2016 vintage, the estate has produced one of its best vintages in a long time.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated wine (2020 guide) Mentioned (Successful wine)

Rated estate (Guide 202) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

The perfect balance between Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon (45% each) is complemented by a touch of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The result is quite intriguing, with a lovely aromatic profile that blends well-ripened red and black fruits and a good tannic structure.

About the estate:

Jean Landureau acquired the property in 1934 and converted it into a stud farm. His son Jean-Michel expanded the vineyard and sold the grapes to the cooperative until the arrival of the third generation and Jean-Marc, who took over in 1990. After Jean-Marc’s passing, his daughter Anne took over the estate, which maintains consistent quality and has been in the process of converting to biodynamic farming since 2018.

Robert Parker - Wine Advocate

Robert Parker - Wine Advocate

Wine rated (2017 guide) 88–90/100 (Excellent wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The 2016 Escurac has a fresh, lively bouquet with plenty of blackberry and raspberry aromas, and a hint of minerality that emerges with time. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a sleek texture, plump blackberries, and some smoky notes toward the finish, reminiscent of a Right Bank style. Not bad at all.

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2019 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

Aromas of blackberry, licorice, and tar give way to a full-bodied wine with velvety tannins and a savory finish. A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It takes a year or two to age properly. Best enjoyed after 2020.

I loved the 2011 vintage. I was disappointed by this 2016—it lacked flavor and was perhaps too young (tasted in 2020).
