Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2019 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2021 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the wine:
It succeeds in being lighter in style yet just as precise and well-balanced as a fine wine. In short, it delivers exactly what one would expect from its category.
About the estate:
Owned by the Castéja family and expertly guided by the late Denis Dubourdieu, the wine has regained the fullness of its style, combining the power it often displayed between 1945 and 1961 with infinitely greater purity and aromatic finesse. The wines have improved dramatically since the 2000s and represent one of the best values in Pauillac. Since 2015, a second wine, Lions-de-Batailley, has allowed for an even more rigorous selection of grapes for the grand vin.

Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2021 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
The flagship wine of Borie Manoux, a venerable wine merchant founded in 1870 by the Castéja family—one of Pauillac’s oldest families—which has owned the estate since 1932. A beautiful 55-hectare estate located at the southwestern edge of the appellation, it is said to owe its name to a battle that took place on these lands in 1453.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the estate:
Philippe Castéja produces a Pauillac of classic style and structure, which has gained considerably in definition and precision in recent years. The wine also ages remarkably well, retaining a profile that is very typical of the great Médoc wines, combining integrity and precision. Prices remain very reasonable. We are delighted by the consistency and excellent quality of the most recent vintages.

Wine rated (2021 guide) 93/100
About the wine:
On the nose, the wine offers aromas of lovely flowers, redcurrants, and a hint of sandalwood. It develops into a full-bodied wine with very fine, velvety tannins that are polished and magnificent. Truly creamy, concentrated, and precise. Second wine. Best enjoyed after 2024.
Yves Beck
Wine rated (2020 guide) 90/100
About the wine:
A deep garnet color with violet highlights. The wine’s maturity still defines the bouquet of Les Lions, but the fruit is also developing nicely. Inviting notes of caramel and chocolate, followed by fruity nuances. The wine is fresh and flavorful on the palate. Its tannins are well-integrated and offer good aging potential, while its freshness ensures drinkability. 2023–2038
Vert de Vin
Wine rated (2021 guide) 91/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About the wine:
The nose is refined and offers structure, moderate intensity, freshness, and power. It reveals notes of ripe/fresh wild blackcurrant, small wild berries, and, to a lesser extent, red berries, combined with hints of lily and violet, as well as touches of sandalwood, tobacco, dried rose, and subtle hints of hazelnut. The palate is fruity and offers juiciness, richness (yet with finesse and balance), an almost ethereal quality upon entry, a subtle creaminess, fine texture, structure, and roundness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, blackcurrant, and, more subtly, wild raspberry, combined with small hints of pulpy/fleshy strawberry, violet, and lilac, as well as hints of chocolate, toasted almond, and a subtle hint of vanilla. It has a fine texture and a rich, indulgent finish.
