Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2019 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2021 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, the pride of French vineyards)
About wine:
Successful in its lighter expression, yet as precise and balanced as that of a great wine. In short, everything you would expect from its category.
About the estate:
Owned by the Castéja family and intelligently advised by the late Denis Dubourdieu, the wine has regained its full style, combining the power it often displayed between 1945 and 1961 with infinitely greater purity and aromatic finesse. The wines have improved spectacularly since the 2000s and offer one of the best value for money in Pauillac. Since 2015, a second wine, Lions-de-Batailley, has allowed for an even more rigorous selection of the grand vin blend.

Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2021 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
The flagship wine of Borie Manoux, a venerable wine merchant founded in 1870 by the Castéja family, one of the oldest families in Pauillac, who have owned the estate since 1932. A beautiful 55-hectare estate at the southwestern edge of the appellation, which owes its name to a battle that took place on these lands in 1453.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the estate:
Philippe Castéja produces a classic Pauillac in style and form, which has gained considerably in definition and precision in recent years. The wine also ages remarkably well, retaining a profile that is very typical of the great wines of the Médoc, combining integrity and precision. Prices remain very affordable. We are delighted with the consistency and excellent quality of the latest vintages.
James Suckling
Wine rated (2021 guide) 93/100
About wine:
On the nose, the wine is fragrant with pretty flowers, redcurrants, and a hint of sandalwood. It continues with a full body and very fine, caressing tannins that are polished and magnificent. Truly creamy, concentrated, and precise. Second wine. Drink after 2024.
Yves Beck
Wine rated (2020 guide) 90/100
About wine:
Dense garnet color with purple highlights. Maturation still defines the Lions' bouquet, but the fruit can also develop well. Inviting notes of caramel and chocolate, followed by fruity nuances. The wine is fresh and flavorful on the palate. Its tannins are well integrated and offer good aging potential, while its freshness ensures accessibility. 2023-2038
Vert de Vin
Wine rated (2021 guide) 91/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About wine:
The nose is racy and offers structure, a little concentration, freshness, and power. There are notes of ripe/fresh wild blackcurrant, small wild berries, and more subtly, small red fruits combined with hints of lily, violet, and touches of zan, tobacco, dried rose, and discreet hints of hazelnut. The palate is fruity and offers juiciness, richness (but with finesse and balance), an almost airy approach, a subtle creaminess, fine texture, structure, and roundness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, blackcurrant and, more subtly, wild raspberry, combined with hints of pulpy/fleshy strawberry, violet, lilac, chocolate, toasted almond and a subtle hint of vanilla. A fine texture and deliciousness on the finish/persistence.
