Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 16/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2022 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the wine:
A rich and complex nose with exuberant fruit and pleasant mineral and floral notes; full-bodied and rich on the palate, with a beautiful, lingering array of flavors supported by excellent liveliness. Character and power.
About the estate:
Flanked by Carbonnieux and Haut-Bailly, it is one of Pessac-Léognan’s most effective ambassadors worldwide. The wines—both reds and whites—are powerful and consistently excellent, aging superbly. The Sauvignon-style whites, distinguished and exquisitely fresh, are among the appellation’s must-try wines. The reds now rival the whites, with a powerful and vigorous style that is by no means lacking in elegance.

Guide Hachette des vins
Wine noted (guide 2020) 1*Star (Very successful wine)
Rated estate (2021 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the wine:
Brioche, exotic fruits, toasted bread—the bouquet is both rich and complex, complemented by mineral notes and hints of smoke. The same impression is found on the palate: fresh, full-bodied, and with a lovely finish.
About the estate:
Although unclassified, Château la Louvière—bordering Carbonnieux and Haut-Bailly—is nonetheless an iconic Pessac-Léognan cru, thanks to the elegance of its château (designated a historic monument), the age of its vineyards (dating back to the 14th century), the role of its owner (André Lurton, who passed away in May 2019) in the creation of the AOC, and the consistent quality of its wines.

Rated estate (2022 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)
About the estate:
André Lurton, who passed away in June 2019, was a leading figure in the Bordeaux region and one of the principal architects behind the creation of the Pessac-Léognan appellation in 1987. He had acquired La Louvière in 1965 and never ceased to promote this popular, accessible, and consistent wine. The program to modernize and improve vineyard management continues under the leadership of Jacques Lurton, who is also bringing innovation to the winery, with aging now placing a strong emphasis on terracotta jars.
Wine Spectator
Wine rated (2019 guide) 92/100 (Exceptional wine)
About the wine:
The palate is taut, structured by notes of quinine and fleur de sel against a tart backdrop of Golden Delicious apple, star fruit, and jicama. This liveliness carries through to the mineral finish. Still very pure, this wine should soften and gain body in the near future. Best enjoyed now through 2024. (James Molesworth)

About the wine:
Impressive notes of poached pears and lemons. A very fresh and appealing aroma of lemons and green mangoes. 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Enjoy now or save for later.
