Gault & Millau

“Regardless of the vintage, this wine seems to overcome challenges with disarming consistency. Here, a characterful 2011, a deep red with amethyst highlights. The powerful nose blends ripe black fruits with floral and smoky notes. Dense, generous, and highly concentrated, as broad as it is long, the palate displays impressive volume. "Sounds and scents swirl in the evening air / A melancholic waltz and languid vertigo…" One of our tasters, inspired, thinks of Baudelaire…” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2015) Delivered in a wooden case for all orders of 6 bottles of this wine (excluding Point Relais delivery method)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2014 guide) 16,5/20 (Reference wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the wine:

Exquisitely refined texture, superb on the palate—smooth and velvety—unfolding with a caressing, delicate, and silky mouthfeel, featuring notes of violet and fresh black fruit. Delicious and fairly persistent tannins; a superb wine.

About the estate:

Édouard Labruyère (Domaine Jacques Prieur in Burgundy, JM Labruyère in Champagne and Beaujolais) has restored this fine vineyard in the northern part of the Pomerol plateau to its former glory. The 1868 Féret Guide ranked Rouget among the top five estates in the region. Recent vintages show steady progress, and 2015 should hold some excellent surprises. Combining power and elegance, Rouget is becoming more refined in the structure of its tannins, with a smooth texture that fills the mouth nicely.

Wine rated (2015 guide) 2** stars (Outstanding wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

Regardless of the vintage, this wine seems to overcome challenges with disarming consistency. Here, a characterful 2011, dark red with amethyst highlights. The powerful nose blends ripe black fruits with floral and smoky notes. Dense, generous, and highly concentrated, as broad as it is long, the palate displays impressive volume. "Sounds and scents swirl in the evening air / A melancholic waltz and languid vertigo…" One of our tasters, inspired, thinks of Baudelaire…

About the estate:

In 1992, the Labruyères—originally from Beaujolais (Moulin-à-Vent) and now owners of estates in Burgundy (Jacques Prieur) and Champagne—acquired this estate, which has been renowned since the 18th century. They have elevated it to the ranks of Pomerol’s greats, thanks to wines of remarkable consistency, produced from 18 hectares of vineyards situated on gentle slopes on the Pomerol plateau.

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Wine rated (2013 guide) 15,5/20 (Very good)

About the wine:

A wine with aromas of cherry brandy and flowers, with a hint of nutmeg. Full-bodied on the palate with slightly firm tannins, but overall well-balanced, with a pleasant lingering finish.

Wine rated (2014 guide) 89/100 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

This estate has been on a quality roll for several years now. The 2011 vintage is captivating, displaying a deep ruby-purple color along with notes of cherries and spices, abundant fruit, and a full-bodied palate. It is a classic Pomerol that is delicious to drink now and will continue to age beautifully over the next ten years. The standout of the vintage.

Wine rated (2016 guide) 15,5/20 (Good wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

Another great success, the 2011 vintage, is equally appealing and, above all, boasts a wonderful freshness of fruit.

About the estate:

Neighboring L’Église-Clinet, Rouget has made significant strides since its acquisition by the Labruyère family. Édouard Labruyère, who oversees the estate, spares no effort in elevating the property to the pinnacle of the appellation. The work, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, is meticulous; the wine possesses a beautiful depth of flavor and undeniable richness. The château’s pricing policy remains reasonable, making Rouget a great value within the appellation, with a decidedly modern style that emphasizes body intensity and the voluptuousness of fruit that increasingly borders on overripeness. This latter characteristic seems to us to dominate the most recent vintages, to the detriment of the wines’ overall balance and the finesse of their expression. That is why we are today removing one star from the estate’s rating.
