" Wow. This is very polite and meaningful with black berries, hazelnuts, cedar, and chocolate, as well as black olives. Full-bodied, mellow, and intense with a backbone and intensity of concentrated tannins. There is weight here. Solid finishes. This could be the best wine in the appellation. Try from 2024." Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 16.5/20 (Reference wine)
Rated estate (2021 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About wine:
All the promise glimpsed during the primeur tasting is now evident, with beautifully juicy fruit, nuanced smoothness, and the floral depth that characterizes great Pomerols.
About the estate:
Édouard Labruyère (Domaine Jacques Prieur in Burgundy, JM Labruyère in Champagne and Beaujolais) has restored this beautiful vineyard in the north of the Pomerol plateau to its former glory. In 1868, the Féret guide considered Rouget to be one of the five best properties in the area. The latest vintages show steady progress and 2015 should hold some excellent surprises in store. Combining power and elegance, Rouget is becoming more precise in the structure of its tannins, with a mellow texture that sits well on the palate.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
In 1992, the Labruyères, originally from Beaujolais (Moulin-à-Vent) and now owners in Burgundy (Jacques Prieur) and Champagne, acquired this estate, which has been renowned since the 18th century. They have elevated it to the ranks of the greats of Pomerol, thanks to wines of remarkable consistency, produced from 18 hectares of vines planted on a gentle slope on the Pomerol plateau.
Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
Wine rating (2018 guide) 92/100 (Outstanding wine)
Rated estate (2021 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About wine:
The 2016 Rouget is a deep garnet purple with aromas of cooked plums, dried blackberries, tobacco, and crushed stones, with notes of beef juice and Indian spices, as well as hints of bay leaves. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, firm, grainy, and loaded with earthy layers, it has a savory finish.

Wine rated 18/20 (Great wine)
Rated estate (2021 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)
About wine:
The 2016 Rouget is almost pure Merlot (96%). Michel Rolland, the estate's consultant, deemed the Cabernet Franc too powerful. One-third of the vinification was carried out entirely in barrels. This wine is very colorful, extremely creamy, rich, and well-rounded. A Pomerol with great length, fruitiness, and body.
About the estate:
Neighboring L'Église-Clinet, Rouget has made considerable progress since its acquisition by the Labruyère family. Édouard Labruyère, who is in charge of the estate, spares no effort in bringing the property to the heights of the appellation. The work, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, is very serious; the wine has a beautiful depth of flavor and an undeniable generosity. The château's pricing policy remains reasonable, making Rouget a great deal within the appellation, with a resolutely modern style that favors intensity of body and the voluptuousness of fruit that increasingly flirts with overripeness. This latter characteristic seems to us to dominate the latest vintages, to the detriment of the overall balance of the wines and the finesse of their expression. This is why we are today removing one star from the estate.
