Château Clos de Sarpe 2011
2*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
96/100
Robert Parker
"Another success for Mr. Beyney; this 2011 is undoubtedly the most concentrated and intense wine of the vintage. Unlike other years, which were characterized by high tannin levels, the tannins in this Clos de Sarpe are very silky and smooth, giving way to the fruit. The color is an opaque purple, and the wine is packed with beautiful black fruit, minerality, and spices. This pushes richness and maturity to their limits, but pulls back just before veering into Amarone territory. This glorious, full-bodied Saint-Emilion is one of the superstars of this vintage. Unfortunately, production is minuscule... ” (Wine Advocate 2014 - Robert Parker) Orders of 6 bottles of this wine shipped within France will be delivered in a wooden case.

Guide Hachette des vins
Wine noted (guide 2015) 2* Favorite (Remarkable wine)
Rated estate (2015 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the wine:
In 2012, the winery achieved the coveted status of cru classé; in 2014, it was named Favorite the 30th edition of the Guide Hachette: Jean-Guy Beyney has every reason to smile. His 2011 vintage, born from sixty-five-year-old vines and aged for eighteen months in oak barrels, boasts a sumptuous burgundy hue verging on black. The rich and intense bouquet combines very ripe black fruits and brandy-soaked plum with elegant, well-integrated oak. This generosity is reflected in a palate that is smooth and velvety from the first sip, full-bodied, rich, and powerful, built for aging.
About the estate:
This small, 3.7-hectare vineyard, comprising a single contiguous plot and situated on the clay-limestone plateau of Sarpe, has been in the Beyney family since 1926. Jean-Guy Beyney, representing the third generation, took over in 1983 and saw his estate achieve the status of a classified growth in the 2012 classification.
