“Another success for Mr. Beyney—this 2011 is certainly the most concentrated and intense wine of the vintage. Unlike other years, which were characterized by high tannin levels, the tannins in this Clos de Sarpe are very silky and smooth, giving way to the fruit. The color is an opaque purple, and the wine is brimming with beautiful black fruit, minerality, and spices. This pushes richness and maturity to their limits, but pulls back just before veering into the style of Amarones. This glorious, full-bodied Saint-Emilion is one of the superstars of this vintage. About the wine:

In 2012, he achieved the coveted status of “cru classé”; in 2014, he received the “ Favorite ” award for the 30th edition of the Guide Hachette: Jean-Guy Beyney has every reason to smile. His 2011 vintage, crafted from 65-year-old vines and aged for 18 months in oak barrels, boasts a sumptuous burgundy color verging on black. The rich, intense bouquet combines very ripe black fruits and brandy-soaked plums with elegant, well-integrated oak. This generosity is reflected in a palate that is smooth and velvety from the first sip—full-bodied, rich, and powerful, built for aging.

About the estate:

This small, 3.7-hectare vineyard—comprising a single block and well situated on the clay-limestone plateau of Sarpe—has been in the Beyney family since 1926. Jean-Guy Beyney, who took over in 1983 as the third generation of the family, saw his estate achieve cru classé status in the 2012 classification.
