“This organic wine is a real standout!”

“A springtime palette of orchard flowers and crushed cherries, edged with a hint of blood. A fresh and juicy attack, a lively development; the structure is superb, both vertical and horizontal, built on controlled ripeness and a superb balance of fruit, tannins, and acidity. This vintage is full of charm and a great success . ” (Terre de Vins 2020) - Delivered in a wooden case for all orders of 6 bottles of this wine (excluding Pickup Point delivery method)

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

This is rare enough among Bordeaux’s grands crus to be worth noting: this estate is farmed organically (certified in 2006) and biodynamically (2008). Alain Moueix, a native of Corrèze like many winemakers based in the Libourne region, has owned it since 2001.

Rated estate (2018 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Château Fonroque is the Moueix family’s ancestral home in Saint-Émilion, acquired in 1931 by Jean and Adèle, the great-grandparents of Alain Moueix, who took over management of the family estate in 2001. Each generation has left its mark. Whatever the future holds for the château, in a local context where family-owned estates are increasingly rare, it can be said that the current generation has not strayed from tradition. A trained agricultural engineer and oenologist, Alain Moueix began considering the transition to organic farming as early as 2002. Certification inspections began in 2003. In 2005, a logical progression of all the steps taken led the entire vineyard to adopt biodynamic farming. The 17.6 hectares of contiguous land that make up the vineyard are spread across a plateau and a west-facing hillside, northwest of the village of Saint-Emilion. “The best plots in the upper part of the estate were preserved by previous generations,” explains Alain Moueix. “It’s always a difficult decision to pull up old vines since they are the foundation of your great wine. When I started pulling them up in 2001, I had my doubts. Today I have no regrets. Deprived of their yield, it set me back for five years, but today I’m reaping all the benefits.”

Le Figaro Wines

Le Figaro vins

Wine rated (2022 guide) 93/100

About the wine:

A nose characteristic of Fonroque, revitalized by the estate’s biodynamic approach since 2008. With this bouquet of fruit juice and decadent flowers, it feels as though you’re no longer in Bordeaux. On the palate, the notes are a bit more subtle, with lively fruit, minerality, and firm tannins. A deliciously juicy wine!

Wine rated (2021 guide) 93/100

About the wine:

86% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc. This nearly 16-hectare estate is farmed using biodynamic methods. The wine is aged in 30% new barrels and 70% one-use barrels. The bouquet is fresh, delicate, and subtle, revealing pleasant, intense notes of raspberries. On the palate, Fonroque stands out for its elegance and freshness. It owes this freshness to its acidic structure, which also supports the aromatic persistence of the finish. A fresh, delicious, and delightful wine! 2024–2040

Wine rated (2020 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

Deep purple in color with violet highlights and a black core. An aromatic nose evoking blackcurrant jam, ripe strawberries, gingerbread, and subtly toasted vanilla. On the palate, the wine is well-balanced and structured, with ripe yet firm tannins, freshness, and aromatic depth. Excellent, with a compelling finish.
