“Year after year, the fruit comes to the fore… it’s delightful! I still detect hints of vanilla and oak, but also fruit. It has a rich, indulgent character on the palate. The tannins are well-integrated, and the structure lends a certain freshness. Thanks to its freshness, this is a wine that can be enjoyed even in its youth.” (Yves Beck 2020)

About the estate:
The Aubert family, which has owned vineyards for over two centuries—now represented by brothers Alain, Daniel, and Jean-Claude, supported by their children—manages 300 hectares and numerous estates in the Bordeaux region, primarily in the Libourne area, with Château la Couspaude as its crown jewel; this estate has been a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé since 1996 and was acquired in 1908.

Rated estate (2021 guide) Cité
About the estate:
The vineyard’s long history and unity are evident. It is a true 7-hectare vineyard on the limestone plateau, just outside the city, not far from Trotte Vieille. More than just a reflection of the terroir, La Couspaude possesses a highly recognizable style, developed by the Aubert family in the 1990s with the collaboration of Michel Rolland, which has earned it international critical acclaim: a smooth texture accentuated by pronounced smoky oak, flavors of sweet spices and mocha, which sometimes evolve into an exotic, almost Burgundian expression... with undeniable decadent charm.

About the wine:
This is a rich wine with intense oak notes and bold tannins punctuated by generous hints of black fruit. The structure and fruit are already present and will develop further, gaining body and spice.
James Suckling
Wine rated (2021 guide) 94/100
About the wine:
Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, and violets. The wine is full-bodied with very polished tannins that are beautiful and intense. Smooth and creamy. It needs time to open up. A bit tight right now.

About the wine:
Year after year, the fruit really comes through… it’s delightful! I still detect hints of vanilla and oak, but also fruit. It has a rich, indulgent character on the palate. The tannins are well-integrated, and the structure lends a certain freshness. Thanks to its freshness, this is a wine that can be enjoyed even in its youth.
Vert de Vin
Wine rated (2020 guide) 94-95/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About the wine:
The nose is fruity, elegant, and refined, offering concentration, controlled power, and depth. It features notes of ripe black berries, blackberry, and violet, combined with hints of lily, crushed raspberry, as well as bursts of vibrant blueberry, Cuben pepper, and subtle hints of nutmeg, chocolate, and sweet spices. The palate is fresh, mineral, balanced, and beautifully structured, offering juiciness, lovely precision and definition, fine-grained texture, subtle richness, a nice balance, and freshness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy, pulpy blackcurrant, vibrant redcurrant, and, more subtly, fleshy raspberry, combined with hints of juicy, fleshy blackberry as well as hints of violet, lily, nutmeg, vibrant blueberry, and very subtle hints of licorice, Bourbon vanilla bean, salinity, and toasted/nutmeg notes. The tannins are elegant and well-integrated. Appetizing on the finish/long-lasting. A lovely, indulgent wine that is precise, well-structured, and fruit-forward.
