"The 2008 is one of the last vintages produced by the former owners. It is a balanced wine, a faithful reflection of its appellation and vintage. The bouquet is full of freshness, exuding cherry aromas complemented by young oak, vanilla, and licorice. The fruitiness is reflected in the palate, which is structured by tight but velvety tannins. Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (A serious production, recommendable, in line with what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
The Decoster family, owners of Clos des Jacobins and La Commanderie in Saint-Émilion, has just purchased this estate located on clay-limestone soil, along with its restaurant, ideally situated in the heart of the vineyard. The 11.5 hectares of Château de Candale enjoy a privileged location in the east of the appellation, with prestigious neighbors such as Tertre Rotebœuf and Bellefont-Belcier. The tannins appear less severe than in the past and the potential is evident.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine noted (guide 2012) 1*Star (Very successful wine)
About wine:
This 12-hectare vineyard located in Saint-Laurent-des-Combes changed hands in 2010 when the Adams family sold it to cooper Vicard. The 2008 vintage is therefore one of the last produced by the former owners. It is a well-balanced wine that faithfully reflects its appellation and vintage. The bouquet is full of freshness, exuding cherry aromas complemented by young oak, vanilla, and licorice. The fruitiness is reflected on the palate, which is structured by tight but velvety tannins. This wine is already ready to drink but can be cellared for five years.

Good wine but lacking complexity for such a vintage. Mediocre value for money. Disappointing for a grand cru! What a shame.
