“The 2008 is one of the last vintages produced by the former owners. It is a well-balanced wine that faithfully reflects its appellation and vintage. The fresh, lively bouquet offers aromas of cherry, complemented by youthful oak notes of vanilla and licorice. The fruit comes through on the palate, which is structured by firm yet velvety tannins. Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
The Decoster family, owners of Clos des Jacobins and La Commanderie in Saint-Émilion, has just acquired this estate situated on the clay-limestone slope, along with its restaurant, which is ideally located in the heart of the vineyards. The 11.5 hectares of Château de Candale enjoy a privileged location in the eastern part of the appellation, with prestigious neighbors such as Tertre Rotebœuf and Bellefont-Belcier. The tannins appear less harsh than in the past, and the potential is evident.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine noted (guide 2012) 1*Star (Very successful wine)
About the wine:
This vineyard, covering about twelve hectares in Saint-Laurent-des-Combes, changed hands in 2010; the Adams family sold it to the cooper Vicard. The 2008 is therefore one of the last vintages produced by the former owners. It is a well-balanced wine that faithfully reflects its appellation and vintage. The fresh, lively bouquet offers aromas of cherry complemented by young oak, vanilla, and licorice. The fruit is evident on the palate, which is structured by firm yet velvety tannins. A wine that is ready to drink now and suitable for aging for five years.

A good wine, but lacking in complexity for such a vintage. Poor value for money. Disappointing for a grand cru! Too bad.
