Château Simard
Dating back to the 17th century, Château Simard is located on a hill in the southern part of the Saint-Emilion appellation, close to the premier crus. Its vineyard covers around forty hectares and is characterized by a predominance of Merlot (70%) and a good proportion of Cabernet Franc.
Claude Mazière, who ran Château Simard from 1954 to 2008, was one of the few producers who wanted to leave each vintage of his wine to age in the cellar.
Claude Mazière, who ran Château Simard from 1954 to 2008, was one of the few producers who wanted to let each vintage of his wine age in the cellar, sometimes for up to ten years, before selling it at a time when he considered it to be at its peak.
Following the death of Claude Mazière, Château Simard was taken over entirely by his nephew Alain Vauthier and his daughter Pauline, famous owners of the legendary Château Ausone, one of the four great estates of the Médoc.

Alain Vauthier and his daughter Pauline, famous owners of the legendary Château Ausone, one of the
four châteaux to have achieved the supreme rank of "Premiers grands crus classés A" in
Saint-Émilion. He obtained the right for Château Simard to use the appellation "Saint-Émilion
Grand Cru" from the 2008 vintage onwards.
Dominated by Merlot, Château Simard wines have a very silky and accessible profile.
