“James Suckling’s Top 100 of 2021”
“A deep, intense, beautiful, uniform, and youthful red color. An intense, refined, fruity, pure, and subtle nose. A creamy and slightly smoky note. Meticulously crafted on the palate, particularly aromatic in the mid-palate, with a velvety body, smoothness, and elegance in the texture; the wine finishes long, a touch understated, yet very distinguished, with refined tannins. A superb wine that is not overwhelmed by the year’s high alcohol content.” (Jean-Marc Quarin 2022) - Delivered in a wooden case for all orders of 6 bottles of this wine (excluding Pickup Point delivery method)

Wine rated (2019 guide) 96/100
Rated estate (2020 guide) 5*Stars (Exceptional producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and around the world)
About the wine:
The nose offers notes of milk caramel and black cherry—very characteristic of this vintage—with a mouth-watering hint of pepper. On the palate, it stands out for its elegance and exceptional freshness. Once bottled, it could well rank among the top five wines of Saint-Émilion.
About the estate:
Since the late 1990s and the arrival of Philippe Castéja at the helm, supported by the late oenologist Denis Dubourdie, this magnificently situated estate on the limestone plateau, at the northeastern edge of the village of Saint-Émilion, has captivated with its assertive intensity, as well as its balance, finesse, and freshness. It offers the distinctive character of a refined, long, and elegant Saint-Émilion, with all the chic of great Cabernet Francs from very old vines, which often constitute the majority of the blend. A recent vertical tasting demonstrates once again that this wine is among the very best of the Right Bank.

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the estate:
One of the jewels in the crown of the Borie-Manoux estate. Legend has it that an old lady who once lived on the property would trot along to inquire about the news from the passing stagecoach. Today managed by Philippe Castéja, this 12-hectare vineyard, located on the eastern slope of the Saint-Émilion plateau, boasts an original blend of grape varieties, with equal proportions of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Wine rated (2021 guide) 97/100
Rated estate (2020 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the wine:
True to its classic character, this wine is certainly full-bodied, especially in this vintage, where it has managed to preserve its freshness while building on the finesse of fruit softened by oak, which harmonizes the ripe, smooth profile with elegantly refined tannins. The limestone soils of the plateau have once again made their mark in the rich, well-balanced texture of this vintage.
About the estate:
A traditional Premier Cru of Saint-Émilion, Trotte Vieille occupies a superb hillside, somewhat secluded from its peers, capable of producing elegant, refined wines with great aging potential. It boasts a rare collection of very old Cabernet Franc vines, from which the château produces a micro-cuvée that is not commercially available. Philippe Castéja initiated a clear overhaul in the early 2000s, relying on the wise advice of the late Denis Dubourdieu. The estate produces a classically crafted wine, expressing a certain austerity in its early years, which prioritizes freshness and fruit over opulence. We awarded it its second star in 2015. Following the 2012 classification, the entire vineyard of Château Bergat (3.5 hectares) is now eligible to be included in Trotte Vieille. Currently, a portion is dedicated to improving the second wine, La Vieille Dame de Trotte Vieille.

About the wine:
A beautiful bouquet of delicate flowers, somewhere between blackcurrant blossoms and wallflowers, which unfolds into a captivating palate—extremely rich, sumptuous, and enveloping like a cozy cocoon—with a dense, lingering finish of mocha.

About the wine:
This wine reveals itself to be full of finesse. It offers freshness, fruit, and a distinct character that it displays and highlights with precision. On the palate, the wine is dense, delicious, and endowed with firm tannins. These tannins are tight and well-integrated, in perfect harmony with the acidity. Here, there is class, vibrancy, and character. A fruity finish. A fine achievement.

Anthocyanes - Yohan Castaing
Wine rated (2019 guide) 96-98/100
About the wine:
The nose offers notes of iris, blackcurrant buds, and "al dente" black fruits, revealing great delicacy and a refined, subtle bouquet. On the palate, it is juicy, with velvety, perfectly savory tannins, beautiful aromas of fresh fruit, and a most refined mineral quality. A magnificent wine that will age beautifully and retain its delicacy. Bravo!
