Valandraud Castle
Château Valandraud is the result of the considerable efforts of Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud, a couple passionate about the world of wine. After enjoying considerable success in Saint-Emilion as wine merchants, their ambition was to own their own vineyard and make their own wine. In 1989, they acquired a small 0.6-hectare plot in the Saint-Émilion valley between Pavie-Macquin and La Clotte. The name Château Valandraud has both geographical (Val: Fongaban valley) and sentimental (Andraud: Murielle's surname) origins.

Little by little, Jean-Luc Thunevin and his wife expanded the vineyard, which now covers a total area of 10 hectares, situated on very different soils and locations within the Saint-Emilion appellation. This diversity of soils and grape varieties allows for the production of six different wines: Château Valandraud, Château Valandraud Casher, Virginie de Valandraud, 3 de Valandraud, Blanc de Valandraud No. 1, and No. 2. Three cuvées are produced through blending with the assistance of Michel Rolland, a world-renowned oenologist.

At Château Valandraud, everything is done in both a traditional and modern way: double Guyot pruning, suckering, lifting, leaf removal, and green harvesting. The harvest is done by hand and takes place over just a few days, but as a "family affair." The care taken in the vinification and aging of Château Valandraud wines guarantees Bordeaux lovers one of the best Saint-Emilion Grand Crus.
