Château Valandraud
Château Valandraud is the result of the tireless efforts of a couple passionate about the world of wine, Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud. After achieving great success in Saint-Émilion as wine merchants, their ambition was to own their own vineyard and produce their own wine there. In 1989, they acquired a small 0.6-hectare plot in the Saint-Émilion valley between Pavie-Macquin and La Clotte. The origin of the name Château Valandraud is both geographical (Val: Fongaban valley) and sentimental (Andraud: Murielle’s surname).

Little by little, Jean-Luc Thunevin and his wife expanded the vineyard, which now covers a total area of 10 hectares, situated on very different soils and locations within the Saint-Émilion appellation. This diversity of soils and grape varieties allows for the production of six different wines: Château Valandraud, Château Valandraud Kosher, Virginie de Valandraud, and the 3 de Valandraud, as well as Blanc de Valandraud No. 1 and No. 2. Three of these cuvées are crafted through blending with the assistance of Michel Rolland, a world-renowned oenologist.

At Château Valandraud, everything is done in a manner that is both traditional and modern: double Guyot pruning, suckering, lifting, leaf removal, and green harvesting. The harvest, which is done by hand, takes place over just a few days, but “as a family.” The meticulous care devoted to the winemaking and aging of Château Valandraud’s wines ensures that Bordeaux enthusiasts can enjoy one of the finest Saint-Émilion Grand Cru wines.
