Château Yon-Figeac Saint-Emilion 2019 - Grand Cru Classé

One of the largest estates in the appellation, covering 24 hectares surrounding a shaded park and an 18th-century château in the Figeac area, between Libourne and Saint-Émilion. A cru first mentioned in 1886 and classified since 1955. Industrialist Alain Château, its fifth owner, who took over in 2005, renovated the entire property—including the vineyard and buildings—and enlisted the services of Denis Dubourdieu.

This is a succulent wine, brimming with overripe Merlot and rich tannins. Its structure lies beneath its generous fruitiness, while spices and pepper add a touch of exoticism. The wine is ready to age. Best enjoyed starting in 2025.

The 2019 Yon-Figeac is magnificent. Overripe black cherry, plum, leather, spices, menthol, chocolate, and dried herbs take center stage in this Saint-Émilion, which showcases the more exuberant side of the vintage. It possesses real depth and substance. Sweet spices, cedar, and tobacco develop through to the powerful finish. 2024–2039

Aromas of cherries and berries with hints of bark and dried flowers. Mushrooms, too. The wine is medium-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins and a creamy, polished finish. Lovely texture and great finesse, without compromising structure or length. Best enjoyed in 2024, but it will age very well, too.

Dark, intense, beautiful, and deep in color. Very aromatic on the nose, with lovely ripe and fresh fruit notes. Meticulously crafted on the palate, delicately full-bodied in the middle, the wine develops into a juicy, flavorful wine that is both smooth and dynamic. It has a long finish; it’s very good and full of flavor.

The nose is fresh and offers moderate concentration, intensity, and depth. It reveals notes of pulpy wild blackberry, gray pepper, and, more subtly, crushed raspberry, combined with subtle hints of blackcurrant, lily, and spices, as well as a discreet touch of camphor and licorice. On the palate, the wine is fruity and balanced, offering juiciness, a lively acidity, minerality, freshness, a certain depth, a hint of tension, richness, and a fresh, delicate mouthfeel. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy, juicy blackberry, crushed raspberry, and, to a lesser extent, pulpy red currants, combined with hints of lily, licorice, chocolate, and subtle notes of toasted almond. Good length. A subtle saline note is present on the finish and in the aftertaste.
