“The 2014 Haut Marbuzet has retained the delightful bouquet it displayed in the barrel: soft red cherry and strawberry, a touch of warmth—almost a cozy bouquet you could snuggle into on a warm night. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with soft tannins, good structure, and density, featuring notes of kirsch, orange zest, and Chinese five-spice. It is an atypical Saint-Estèphe, but in 2014, it is a delight—a wine you can simply savor as you taste it, with its unhindered delicacy.” (Wine Advocate 2017) Delivered in a wooden case for all orders of 12 bottles of this wine (excluding Pickup Point delivery method)

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 17/20 (Top-rated wine)
Rated estate (2021 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the wine:
A very delicate nose with lovely complexity, featuring red fruits, sweet floral notes, and hints of minerality and smoke; on the palate, it is warm and full-bodied, with firm, refined tannins, good structure, and a long, aromatic finish. Full of character and potential.
About the estate:
This world-renowned wine is produced in Marbuzet, a hillside facing the Gironde River. Its vineyards are situated halfway between Cos d’Estournel and Montrose. Henri Dubosq, a leading figure in the Médoc, has been crafting the estate’s wines with great success since 1982. In 2006, he partnered with Michelin-starred chef Philippe Jorand to enhance the 13 hectares of Château Layauga-Duboscq, situated on prime terroirs around Gaillan and Queyrac. The wines of Haut-Marbuzet have always been full-bodied, combining roundness and richness, with excellent aging potential. Haut-Marbuzet is truly a must-visit estate within the appellation.

Wine rated (2016 guide) 16,5/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2022 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the estate:
No other Bordeaux estate can claim to have such a devoted community of enthusiasts. For over thirty years, Haut-Marbuzet and its colorful and dynamic owner, Henri Dubosq—now supported by his sons—have won the hearts of discerning wine lovers. While these wines have long been considered charming in their youth (which they undeniably are), yet limited in terms of aging potential, one must taste the mature vintages of this Saint-Estèphe estate to understand that its terroir is above all capable of producing wines that age beautifully. The old Merlot vines planted on blue clay lend Haut-Marbuzet’s bouquet superb truffle notes reminiscent of certain old Pomerols. Like many others, the estate experienced a slight dip in form at the start of the 2000s, but its strong comeback in recent years makes it more indispensable than ever in the cellar of any wine lover.

About the wine:
A fairly easy-drinking wine for a Saint-Estèphe, with soft fruit and moderate tannins until you reach the firm, dry finish. Nowhere near as oaky as this one.

The quality is far from what the experts described. Is this due to how it was stored before the sale? The wine is mediocre, on par with an average Médoc.

2014 wasn't a great year for Bordeaux wines, and Haut-Marbuzet is no exception. That said, it's still pleasant to drink, but it's best not to wait too long to enjoy it.

Review by Mr. JEAN MARIE D. Posted on January 19, 2022
This wine has passed its peak; you can tell right away from the color (brown/orange hues); the nose is underwhelming, and on the palate, it gives the impression that it might have been good at one point, but its best days are behind it! Decanting doesn't help matters. Very disappointing value for the price.
