Wine rated 96/100

Rated estate (2021 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

A sumptuous, refined, and complex nose with a blend of aromas; the palate lives up to expectations, offering remarkable depth, firm yet polished tannins, a long finish, richness, and impeccable balance. A truly great Haut-Marbuzet.

About the estate:

This world-renowned wine is produced in Marbuzet, a hillside facing the Gironde River. Its vineyards are situated halfway between Cos d’Estournel and Montrose. Henri Dubosq, a leading figure in the Médoc, has been crafting the estate’s wines with great success since 1982. In 2006, he partnered with Michelin-starred chef Philippe Jorand to enhance the 13 hectares of Château Layauga-Duboscq, situated on prime terroirs around Gaillan and Queyrac. The wines of Haut-Marbuzet have always been full-bodied, combining roundness and richness, with excellent aging potential. Haut-Marbuzet is truly a must-visit estate within the appellation.

Rated wine (2023 guide) 2* Stars (Outstanding wine)

About the wine:

With its vibrant color, this beautiful 2019 vintage unfolds with an open, rich bouquet of vanilla, coconut, and red and black fruits. Full-bodied, rich, and exceptionally fresh, the palate is equally impressive, with the fruit perfectly balanced by the tannins. A Saint-Estèphe well-equipped to stand the test of time. 2027–2035

Wine rated (2023 guide) 95/100

Rated estate (2022 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

The 2019 vintage stands out as one of the year’s undisputed successes, with that distinctive mouthfeel and rich fruit profile that are the hallmarks of Henri Duboscq’s finest wines. A wine that is both dense and sensual. It will be at its best in 10 years.

About the estate:

No other Bordeaux estate can claim to have such a devoted community of enthusiasts. For over thirty years, Haut-Marbuzet and its colorful and dynamic owner, Henri Dubosq—now supported by his sons—have won the hearts of discerning wine lovers. While these wines have long been considered charming in their youth (which they undeniably are), yet limited in terms of aging potential, one must taste the mature vintages of this Saint-Estèphe estate to understand that its terroir is above all capable of producing wines that age beautifully. The old Merlot vines planted on blue clay lend Haut-Marbuzet’s bouquet superb truffle notes reminiscent of certain old Pomerols. Like many others, the estate experienced a slight dip in form at the start of the 2000s, but its strong comeback in recent years makes it more indispensable than ever in the wine lover’s cellar.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

The 2019 Haut-Marbuzet is fabulous. In fact, it is one of the best recent vintages I can recall. It exudes an absolutely captivating energy and liveliness. Notes of crushed flowers, ripe red fruit, mint, chalk, and blood orange are enhanced by lively acidity and tannins that still need time to fully integrate. The 2019 is simply impressive. 2027–2044

Rated: Recommended

About the wine:

On the nose, aromas of dark and blue fruits, nuts, sauce, vanilla, praline, and a cigar box. A full-bodied wine with fine tannins. Balanced, complex, and refined, with a rich texture. Harmonious, highly elegant, and beautifully intense. A magnificent finish. Exceptional. Best enjoyed starting in 2025.

Wine rated (2021 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

What expression and complexity in this bouquet! It is very inviting, with notes of gingerbread, blackberries, and raspberries. On the palate, the wine reveals itself gradually, very gently. It tiptoes onto the palate, finally revealing powerful yet silky tannins that emerge on the finish. These tannins are perfectly balanced by the wine’s acidity, creating an exceptional harmony! A full-bodied, lively, and fruity wine with a healthy dose of serenity. A truly beautiful success. 2026–2049
