"What a dazzling performance! It's a must-see for fans!"

"If Frank Phélan reveals itself with serenity, Phélan Ségur complements this with precision and depth. Its many subtle nuances highlight its complexity and precision. On the palate, the wine creates a link between vigor and elegance. It has character and depth and can count on the valuable support of subtle bitter notes that reinforce both the freshness and the persistence of the finish. Frank Phélan and the estate's teams set the bar very high, and the wine rose to the challenge with impressive confidence." Wine rated (2023 guide) 95/100

Rated estate (2022 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About wine:

Undoubtedly one of the finest wines produced by the estate and its talented team. Dense, distinguished, and deep, it holds the promise of great emotion that will require patience to appreciate. A priority for wine enthusiasts.

About the estate:

Owned by the Gardinier brothers (who also run Les Crayères in Reims and the Taillevent restaurants in Paris), Phélan was sold in 2018 to Philippe Van de Vyvere, a great lover of Bordeaux wines. This wine, which is in a way the first cousin of Calon-Ségur, is one of the most renowned in the region. Wonderfully located on the banks of the Garonne, it offers a very specific character, marked by notes of cedar and a good mid-palate suppleness. 2015 was one of the major successes in the appellation, while 2016 and 2018 show a racy tannin worthy of the best classified growths.

Rated wine (2026 guide) 2 stars (Outstanding wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About wine:

A vintage in great shape, marking a very successful 2022, which underwent complete vinification in 500-liter barrels with indigenous yeasts. The intense nose offers red and black berries against a subtly smoky background. The black fruit becomes more pronounced and loses none of its brilliance on the palate, which is both fresh and smooth, supported by an already velvety tannic structure. Long, sappy, and lively, it will go far, but no one will be blamed for enjoying it in its younger years. 2028-2040

About the estate:

Located on the plateau next to the village of Saint-Estèphe, this cru combines an impressive collection of neoclassical buildings with a prime terroir: 70 hectares of clayey gravel. It also boasts renowned owners. Bernard Phélan, who already owned Dom. de Garamey, bought land in 1810 from Joseph-Marie de Ségur, Count of Cabanac (who was only a namesake of the Ségur family of Lafite and Calon). Then, for a long time, the Delons, a reference in the Médoc, Xavier Gardinier from 1985 and finally Philippe Van de Vyvere since 2018.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

This beautiful, iconic Saint-Estèphe property, with its superb terroir on the banks of the Gironde, has had a new owner since January 2018. Belgian industrialist Philippe Van de Vyvere now has the task of writing the future chapters of what is undoubtedly one of the best unclassified growths in the Médoc. He has everything he needs to do so and is likely to continue along the path taken in recent years. Phélan Ségur produces a noble wine, not always demonstrative, but racy and aging well.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 95/100

About wine:

A very structured red for Phelan Segur, with incredibly powerful, long, and linear tannins. At the same time, it reveals deep aromas of black fruits, such as blackcurrant and blackberry. Medium-bodied, it has many phenolic grape aromas and a mouthful of dried spices. Very muscular, it is nevertheless invigorating and balanced. 56% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. A Phelan with great aging potential. Old school in a modern style. Best enjoyed after 2029.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 95/100

About wine:

A nose that is both rich and precise, distinctive, combining ripe fruit and sap-like energy. This harmony expands on the palate, fresh and saline, with the addition of delicately velvety tannins, bringing an appetizing volume. The ultra-refined finish, with notes of mocha, leaves you wanting more. 2029-2047

Wine rated (2023 guide) 97/100

About wine:

The proportion of Merlot is unprecedented at 56%, giving it a certain charm from the very first nose, where concentrated violet notes pair with a subtle toasted note. The juicy, full-bodied attack reveals a vertical structure, woven tannins, beautiful flavors of crisp blackcurrant, and a tremendous length.
