“Combines body and finesse like no other wine from this vintage, and always offers excellent value for a wine of such distinguished provenance! ~ B&D”

"I remain as captivated as ever by this terroir. Clos Du Marquis 2019 offers magnificent richness and depth, imbued with the purity and elegance of the vintage. Blackcurrant, smoky black cherries, tobacco, earthy notes, and spices are just a few of its nuances. This medium- to full-bodied wine offers a rich, dense palate, pronounced and almost firm tannins, and a lingering finish. It is not for those seeking immediate gratification and requires at least a decade of bottle aging.” (Jeb Dunnuck 2022)

About the estate:

Often regarded as Léoville Las Cases’ second wine, Clos du Marquis—established in 1902—is in fact a wine in its own right. Its vineyard, planted on a very uniform Mindel gravel terroir, is located northwest of the village of Saint-Julien, while the main vineyard lies to the northeast.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 94/100 (An outstanding wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Clos du Marquis 2019 is another cuvée from the Delon family, with a smaller vintage than usual this year. In fact, 20% of the vines used to make this wine are currently being replanted, with the goal of increasing the proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon to over 70%. Unveiling intense aromas of blackcurrant, plum, incense, wood smoke, and spices, this full-bodied, rich, and concentrated wine features lively acidity, silky tannins, and a profile that is more supple and immediately appealing than its big brother, Léoville-Las Cases. 2026–2055

Rated estate (2020 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

Long regarded as the second wine of Léoville Las Cases, Clos du Marquis is now a cru in its own right, produced from a selection of dedicated plots located at the heart of the classified growths’ appellation: it benefits from the full attention and expertise of the Las Cases team. It’s no surprise that its quality rivals that of a third grand cru classé, and what’s more, it offers impeccable consistency. A truly excellent value.

About the wine:

Barrel sample. From a single vineyard plot at the Léoville Las Cases estate. It displays power combined with finesse. Its tannins and rich blackcurrant aromas—characteristic of Cabernet Sauvignon—are firm, ripe, and elegant. The result is a wine that strikes a balance between structure and fruit, concentration and expressiveness. This wine has great aging potential.
