This is the estate’s first “ Favorite ,” a lovely Saint-Julien that derives its tenderness from a predominance of Merlot (60%). About the estate:

As its name suggests, the terroir of this cru—which was separated from Château Lagrange in 1964 and is located in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle along the “Route des Grands Vins” that runs alongside the Gironde River—is rather poor. This is a disadvantage for all other crops, but an advantage for high-quality grapevines. Acquired in 1982, it is one of the Meffre family’s Bordeaux estates.

Notes of hazelnut, chocolate, and cedar blend with black cherries and blackcurrant. There’s also a hint of paprika and white pepper. Ripe, full-bodied, and well-structured, it features polished tannins and a long, pleasantly smooth finish. It will need another year to allow the oak to integrate more fully.

The palate is juicy, with well-defined tannins; it offers good concentration and a sweetness balanced by a hint of acidity—it’s a real treat!
