“One of the standout wines of the vintage!”

"The Knights of Védrines, who owned this estate for centuries (until 1840), would be proud of the work the Castéja family has done here. Doisy-Védrines is one of the stars of the 2005 vintage for its sublime elegance, richness, and finesse. A formidable, delicate, and fragrant nose with a refreshing touch of botrytis that serves as an impressive introduction to a wonderfully pure Sauternes of extraordinary length. The wine is like a impeccably tailored suit on a perfectly formed body. It is strongly reminiscent of their truly exceptional 1989.” (18/20 Berry Bros & Rudd - Wines and Spirits)

Wine rated 17/20 (Top-rated wine)

4-Star Rated Estate (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

Aromatically diverse, with a classic base of apricot and yellow fruit, nice acidity, a long, fresh wine, very well made, and showing more depth and openness than last year.

About the estate:

This estate, located near Doisy-Daëne and run by Olivier Castéja, shares the same limestone soil typical of the Haut-Barsac region and produces a classic sweet wine—rich, full-bodied, and well-rounded—that will appeal to everyone. In recent years, we’ve come to appreciate the wine’s increased refinement, which is better protected against oxidation. The prices are reasonable.

Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Created when the Doisy estate was divided into three properties, this cru bears the name of its former owners (until 1846), the Védrines. It is located near Climens, Coutet, and the other two Doisy estates (Daëne and Dubroca). The château maintains low yields, producing a wine that ranks among the richest on the nose and sweetest in Barsac. It requires between five and ten years to fully develop, at which point it achieves the distinction and brilliance of the appellation’s star wines.
