Château de Fargues Sauternes 2006

Château de Fargues Sauternes 2006

Notes: Robert Parker 94–96, Wine Spectator 97.5, RVF 17.5/20
A former co-owner and winemaker at Yquem, Alexandre de Lur Saluces applies the same methods to de Fargues that made Château d’Yquem so successful. Given its price (one-third that of Yquem) and its strong resemblance to it, De Fargues is clearly a very good value. Unfortunately, production is minuscule, which means that only a very select few wine lovers have the opportunity to experience the excellence of this wine." (Parker’s Guide to Bordeaux Wines)

Rated (2012 Guide) 6* Stars (Exceptional Quality)

About the estate:

“Located east of Yquem, this sandy-gravelly terroir with a clay-gravelly subsoil consistently produces late-ripening grapes. The château and its vineyard, spanning about fifteen hectares, belong to Alexandre de Lur-Saluces, the former owner and manager of Yquem; the wines are thus produced according to the same rigorous principles that govern the creation of its legendary “big brother.” Aging is lengthy (three years), and production is low but consistently of high quality.”

Rated estate (2012 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

“As a former co-owner and winemaker at Yquem for more than thirty vintages, Alexandre de Lur Saluces has, since the sale of Château d’Yquem, been dedicated to revitalizing production at Château de Fargues, his family’s estate. There, he applies exactly the same principles as at Yquem, producing a classic and well-rounded Sauternes comparable to the greatest wines and one that enjoys a well-deserved reputation among both professionals and enthusiasts alike. All vintages currently available for sale are remarkable.”
